It's not like we lack a history of successful special effects/animation/VFX operations. Disney nurtered a , culture of animators, set designers, artists, production people that lasted thirty years pumping out one or two full lenghth films a year. I don't recall them ever losing money.

The spagetti code that is windows IS difficult to test against BUT these guys are responsible for updates that cause systems to go tits up....but not legally by their user agreements. They face no liability other than a hit to their reputation which they usually overcome. Somehow that doesn't seem fair does it?

I can imagine the spread of wrist rashes so someone who doesn't own a smartwatch can point to it and explain why he isn't wearing one today. Will the rashes come in designer colours too?

To put the $1.3B expenditure in perspective LA County spent $650M to build one (1) High School so waste is not at all unusual. In fact they probably waste more in a year than the entire budget of a midsized American city. They're very progressive.
