One of the better rules, but there are quite a few.
1) Buy from the mid range not the bottom. OR buy bottom of the top range.
2) If you really want to spend more, investigate, it can be worth it.
3) Try before you buy.
4) Rule of Sony LCD was always a W series.
5) Is it is really cheap, it is for a reason, find that reason.
6) Some stuff is overpriced, some is expensive, learn the difference.
7) If you have not heard of them and they are cheap, it will be cheap junk, if expensive, probably very good.
8) Unfortunately electronics are now disposable, plan the replacement when you buy it.
9) Some brands are living on previous reputation, some are trying to overcome previous reputation.
10) If you want to stream from multiple sources, consider a games console rather than multiple streaming boxes.
But we got some good stuff among it instead.
Proper AV amps are always nice to see.
But all these little sticks and boxes for watching streaming TV, too much mess, much easier with a games console with all of the TV applications, and much more likely to be supported, my older console can still do BBC and C4 players and is a 10 year old design.
I will be subscribing to Amamzon Prme next year for my motoring TV needs since the BBC have given up (I cannot watch anything with that ginger tw@t in it). But all I have to do is register an application on the console.
I am managing fine with Freeview TV, Freesat HD PVR and a PS3 & PS4 for all sources.
People bought Vhs rather than the superior Beta*.
This forced Sony to buy studios to guarantee source for any future formats, and as a major format inventor I don't blame them.
Then the people in these new offshoots ruin the reputation of the core company.
* I have a 950 so can prove it
Corrected title
Anyway at home I have left the OS the same as the OS it was built with, then rebuilt with new MB and CPU.
I still get updates, as I ran the registry hack to allow it, and I am still running (pretty well) XP Pro with a dual boot I am preparing to use as main boot of Linux Mint CInnamon.
Neither OS is giving me any crap, all I had to block on XP was the malware they wrote a few years ago post SP3.
As before, I only started blocking when the advertisers declared war on us.
I allow forum speciifc ads from companies I would deal with, but they are usually GIFs or JPGs. A car forum will have adverts from parts suppliers.
Hoverovers and popups were the two which started me, and since that was pre adblocking I used HOSTS
The original was not bad, the P38 had air suspension issues, but is not bad, but the BMW era L322 well, where do you start?
A well designed car with some pretty expensive issues.
The GM box is weak compared to the ZFs, they used a too low torque version. The engine is OK but LR could have done better if allowed to build their own engine, imagine a TD6.
The V8 does not seem to last either, a lot are on second engines.
Bushes, fail like mad. Electrics, not very reliable.
Ford ownership produced the Discovery 3 (partly designed in BMW era) with all of its issues. and introduced the bl00dy Transit engine to the Defender.
Luckily I saw the light and got a Discovery 2 instead
The scrapppage scheme was stupid, it boosted the Korean car industry to the detriment of small garages and second hand car availability.
Now I would never be able to afford a new car, so if Diesels were suddenly picked on I would be stuffed.
I bought a Diesel as most cars of the model I wanted was Diesel, I would just as happiliy gone petrol with LPG.
I have not seen any smoke out the back, and fuel economy has improved since I whipped off the EGR valve, and cleaned the filithy sensors covered in EGR supplied crap, (it also blocked the inlet manifold quite badly).
EGR is a bodge and also causes more issues with the shite it introduces.
Who would want to buy a slow thirsty car?
That is the point, it is using more fuel to drop NOx emmisions, at the cost of CO2.
It is also putting an end to unit injector systems as now some Diesels are injecting on the exhaust stroke to clean up NOx (at the expense of MPG).
I think we are seeing the beginning of the end for Diesel cars.
The fall of Moffat.
From the best writing I have seen of DW, now the stories are contrived and messy.
Best stories of the reboot will always be the relaunch Moffats in 1 2 3.
Best Blink, then Girl in the Fireplace, followed by Empty Child/Doctor Dances.
Since he has become show runner the stories have lost their magic.
Someone please help him get that magic back.
Baggage does not help.
So not keen on Tristan Farnon, slightly annoying childrens presenter and the professional northerner.
Tom Baker at first unsure as he replaced the first one I remembered, ended up being one of the best.
But baggage goes both ways with Wurzel Gummage.
Current Doctor is too well known from previous work.
To be honest SM was let down by poor funds and some silly scripts. CE on the other hand let down the fans with his lack of interest.
