Windows 10 market share fell in September

MJI Silver badge

This weekend I am moving to Win 7

I am putting Windows 7 on our 8 year old home PC. I have just got HDD no 4 for the OS, and it will be triple boot.

Currently starts up into GRUB and a choice of Linux Mint, Windows XP Pro appears.

7 will be added to GRUB.

1) fit all HDD properly (Mint is parked on top of D:)

2) Unplug C: D: Mint

3) Install 7

4) Replug C: D: Mint and do GRUB

5) Move all emails to Thunderbird and use same data location for all 3 boots.

Early indications show UK favouring 'hard Brexit', says expert

Car companies

I can see a few moving from the UK, and even some UK based setting up satellite factories in the EU.

My UK designed and built car includes parts from all over the world, technology from other countries too.

The company has already said exiting the EU will harm it, despite it moving to be a premium manufacturer. (mine is not a premium one).

Oh and just had a look, new factory in Slovakia

Re: "how we label our food"

I upset quite a few relatives who were ardent out voters and all in 70s by calling them coffin dodgers leaving the country in a mess for the young people.

And what did it matter for them as when it was all gone through they would either be too old to care or 6 feet under?

They mentioned general elections. I said so we vote every 5 years if we are part of the EU or not?

Then the ONE major thing to keep us in is being ignored, City of London

Still nothing on BBC about this.

Why are the media so disinterested in US "intelligence" spying on UK email users?

I just emailed BBC

To have a look.

They MIGHT look at the BT connection.

Might as well cause them hassle for outsourcing emails.

Got my complaint in.

Will escalate and see what happens.

Actually I am considering a tablet

Any recommendations?

But since PCs have now really been fast enough for the last decade and newer versions of windows are removing things I use, why should I change?

Forgive me, father, for I have used an ad-blocker on news websites...

MJI Silver badge

I fully agree and sites like this I see and use ads, but if they move to a banned ad server I no longer see them, I just see cannot load instead.

If forums can manage advertising, why not news sites?

MJI Silver badge

Adverts

I have seen sites die due to too many scripts even after adblocking.

I have bought from companies advertising on the internet, I see the ad I contact the company and I buy the item.

These ads are simple animated gifs with a few seconds per frame and about 3 or 4 frames, banner ad as as well.

And it would be impossible to boycott the companies without changing hobbies.

Yes the forum financed by ads from companies supplying the hobby the forum is for.

They change it regularly, I use Greasemonkey to make the web usable

Every few weeks __nq__hh will be some other text

var MaskElement = document.getElementById("__nq__hh");

MaskElement.parentNode.removeChild(MaskElement);

var HtmlElement = document.getElementsByTagName("html")[0];

HtmlElement.style.overflow = "auto";

}

Loads more to remove google privacy warning as I do not agree, need one for youtube as well now.

Re: Damn

Opels were sold here for a while (V Cars), Monza was my favourite, later were the Senators with Vx branding. Manta is a coupe version of the Mk 1 Cavalier, it just remained in production longer.

But I reserve my hatred for the branding abomination that is the term "Vauxhall Adam". The person who decided that should be strung up. I think some stickers would fix them.

He was called Adam Opel.

Re: Damn

Vauxhall made good cars? When?

Quite a few in the 70s with the Droop Snoots, HS Chevette, 80s & 90s with the Senator and Carlton, later with Omega.

Also have a soft spot for the older Cavaliers especially the 2.0 SRi.

My favourite Astra was the old blobby shaped one - as a van. I didn't like the GTE - too much torque steer.

Re: The BBC is skint?

TVU

I was a huge fan of motorsport, I loved the Mansell era, the WRC McCrae and Burns era, the BTTC when it was all sorts such as Sierra Cosworth & M3s.

Haven't watched an F1 race since BBC stopped doing all live, and guess what?

I DO NOT MISS IT.

I now have a few more hours at the wekend to do things, a bit of DIY, a bit of modelling, go out somewhere, car maintenance.

Re: @MJI (was: WTF?)

Graffiti is on C4HD, C4 is watchable.

MJI Silver badge

Re: There is an upside to this cake.

Catch up

I use the PS4 for C4, works fine just a few TV ads.

shITV just moans like hell, no PS4 client so PC time and they are evil, I see their ads but no programs. So use STV player on Firefox instead and delete the node annoying you after the postcode (I used a known postcode from a customer), I will do a greasmonkey script some time to handle it.

Re: The BBC is skint?

Jaywin

That is pretty shitty to everyone concerned and a channel scan shows no Eurosport on my satellite box, will try TV again some time, but I spent ages renumbering all of the channels to their old locations.

I have various reasons to not go Sky, OK too many to list but stiffling satellite technology is one of them. Not forgetting that walnut head is an arse.

MJI Silver badge

Re: The BBC is skint?

Don Dumb

I know F1 is not on that list but it should have been as it WAS one of the most watched casual audience sports on TV. And as a mainly British sport important to the country.

6 Nations, I actually watch it, glad to see the RFU are sensible.

I would have added F1

Also I thought 6 Nations was on there.

Funny really but my wife watches it avidly and I tend to follow it while doing other things.

It is well made and well presented, and many people eat bread and cakes.

Oh and it has now been partly lost from TV

C4 does not as it has some graffiti I can't shift.

Re: Good but not Bond

No being a new character means new stories not constrained by the Bond character baggage.

MJI Silver badge

Good but not Bond

Firstly nothing at all to do with being black. Nor to do with continuity.

He would make a great secret agent, but his characters come across more cerebral than Bond.

Yes I know he is an actor, but he doesn't seem Bond to me.

I did like Brosnan and also Connery.

Now make some films with IE as another special agent and we will all watch. Perhaps he could get Bond out of a pickle?

Still trying to think what you can pirate from Sony?

A TV? : Nope, easier to buy one. Obtaining one is actual knicking one.

A games console? : But how to download? Nah.

A video recorder? : undownloadable but can be worth an absolute fortune. Those Hi8 and SuperBeta decks fetch a lot of money.

A game? : but it won't install on a Playstation, need a proper disc or PSN download.

No still stuck!

Re: They Lied Again

No, in Europe the big bad is CO2 so anything to drop CO2 is good, this is opposite to NOX.

To lower NOX they will be slower and thirstier unless urine exhausts are used.

It is a case of different goals. Change to US from EU and they would be a lot worse to drive.

Re: Loyalty cards

I do not mind Tesco knowing what I bought from them as they give me lots of vouchers. In 2014 got about £300 of tiles using them.

Its not like I am buying anything embarrasing like imported ciders.

Those vouchers will also save us a few hundred pounds when we redecorate the bathroom, oh and IF we use Homebase Nectar points.

We know our information is being used but they purchase it off us.
