Aspiration to deploy new UK nuclear reactor every year a 'wish', not a plan

MJI Silver badge

Re: Summary of the UK's future climate/energy strategy

The war ruined the railways.

The rush to Diesel was not carried out well. Too many rushed designs. Not enough with SVT or CSVT in them

APT was cancelled too early, it would have worked.

BR was saved by the backup project, which is still nicer than the latest stuff.

Re: Hmm

I have always been pro nuclear.

Not changed my stance.

Yet the 2CV driving so called greenies were happy burning coal

MJI Silver badge

Re: Drive me mad

So no point doing them then

MJI Silver badge

Drive me mad

And my thoughts back then were pollution.

Been wanting more nuclear since the late 70s.

Yet here we are turning them off, and wasting expensively imported natural gas in turbines instead,

Aghhh.

As to North Sea gas licences, this I can only approve of if it is used INSTEAD of importing gas, for heating/cooking while we move away from it to a mix of nuclear, and wind/wave.

Don't even like tidal as it would be an ecological disaster to the Severn estuary.

The choice: Pay BT megabucks, or do something a bit illegal. OK, that’s no choice

Still being investigated and that was 7 months ago.

Very weird

I just get go to doctors, or get sent to hospital.

Had in last year MRI, CT, XRays, lots of blood tests, lots of doctors visits, ultrasound.

Not a hint of insurance questions.

Except told that if I drove my licence and car insurance would be invalid.

A lot never got as far as Windows.

Still valid uses for it.

Re: It is a pain

Because a customer wants a phone app and the developer uses an Android phone, like everyone else at work, apart from one person.

None of use are specialists in telephone applications, but Android was easy.

MJI Silver badge

It is a pain

Android is easy, side loading is trivial, play store easy to get into.

Apple - aghh, costs us a lot, need a store, and a mac, and to find an apple phone.

Then the app ony worked properly on a Motorola and not on a Samsmug.

Why did our customer buy a ton of Ipads?

War based FPS

There are a few, but appears to be less than there were.

I absolutely loved Killzone 3, probably my favourite game, I was in top 0.5% of players. I also played MOVE.

It was a heavy slow game, not suitable for running shotgunners, so not a game the average COD player would like.

I know thatt every platform has a more tactical shooter, but most people just seem to want to run around shotgunning. I prefer to creep around sniping, or protecting an area.

Re: So

Well the dev team behind the Horizon series wrote their own game engine.

Forbidden West looks fantastic on a PS4, on a PS5 one of the best looking games out there,

Their last PS3 title looked better than some 4/ONE generation games and of same resolution (as XBONE).

As to full advantage - what about PC games on different hardware?

MJI Silver badge

Made the money by sacking the competents.

I saw windows 11 today.

Start menu was replaced by a weather icon and it had what looked an icon for software to design georgian windows on it.

At least it could run WIN32, but from visuals it could be a Mac to someone not used to them, or some outlier of Linux, but it did not look like Windows.

Re: So

But PS player, may not be playing COD but say shooting robot animals with explosive arrows.

MJI Silver badge

Re: Choice..

Lost choice more like, see Arkane and Bethesda.

MJI Silver badge

Re: So

PS4 PS5 - the shortages are just dropping now, also the 5 is still quite pricy.

A good dev can make a 5 gen game run on 4 gen and look good (see Horizon : Forbidden West).

As to different formats

XBox is basically Windows, PS is basically a UNIX (Based on BSD).

Game developers spent ages getting it to work on two generations, then they are expected to port to another environment they have little experience in?

Look how bad some PS to PC ports have been, yet the devteams of the PS versions often wrote the games and game engines.

Re: A lot of us don't care about COD but

Actually an odd thing.

My home windows PC has a gaming thing, it is called STEAM.

My work PC, built for business work (writing code), has something called XBOX on it, why?

MJI Silver badge

A lot of us don't care about COD but

are a lot more concerned about Bethesda games, yes they are a buggy mess, but we like them.

I liked the Arkane games, loved Dishonoured, no more for me.

But as there are more games than time to play them, I will be fine.

I am building up an exciting backlog for when I get a PS5*. Including the last Arkane game.

* mainly as I want to play the DLC on a game I just finished!

The sorts of games I like are. Assassins Creed until 3, Uncharted, TLOU, Dishonoured, Fallout, Far Cry 2 & 4, Killzone.

A right mix, but enjoyed them all. I really enjoyed FO 4 and FC 4.

Well what are they?

Re: Get stuffed both of you!

I bought an AAA game in a sale late last year £25, 200 hours of fun, huge studio, was orignal. Gave up waiting for a PS5 (orignal no purchase reason), so got PS4 version.

Looks amazing even on a 10 year old console.

Horizon : Forbidden West.

Very difficult explaining without spoiling but near end a great alternative to fast travel. They actually made a game to have fun in and delight the player.

Re: Brexit may be cheaper for MS

Arkane pulled, Bethesda pulled, does anyone care about COD?

That said 2 console generations ago COD players invaded a FPS I used to play, they could not hack a slow tactical FPS.

Not getting a dirctXBOX as I still have it in for MS after causing me tons of extra work, and slowing our main software down, (RIP Netware)

What about Arkane and Bethesda and the cancelling of already in progress Playstation versions?
