Re: Got any 300TDis handy?

Reliability

Actually with the older ones they were not THAT bad.

If they break they are usually repairable, unlike some of the alternatives.

The last decent old Defenders if you were taking them to the back of beyond a S/H but correctly coded ECU was a good idea, and a crank sensor a VERY good idea.

On my contemporary Discovery I have had a few minor breakdowns, fuel pump failed, drove home 140 miles with no fuel pump, bought in part (VDO). Alternator failed (charged battery and went and got a new one), bought in, starter (whacked with breaker bar), bought in, battery consumable (RAC got me started, did not turn off until back home again with a new one).

Not bad for a near 20 year old car.

Got any 300TDis handy?

They are ECU less.

Anything newer will be full of ECUs ranging from 1 (TD5 Defender) to too many

Less work from me for more results out.

I have to solve some of the issues from hard workers! Some are solved by taking all their duplicated code, building a ONE version of it and replacing all the slightly different ones as one is missing something with a call to the one version.

I have been asked if I wanted to see a few cover bands, so far I have rejected a Thin Lizzie tribute and a Bon Jovi tribute.

Not a fan of tribute bands, but I am old enough to see quite a few originals back in the 80s.

I prefer my memories of live versions of Thin Lizzie songs to have come from Phil himself.

Loudly and slowly.

Actually that joke is not that silly as it seems.

Anywhere using a west germanic language would be fine with slowly and clearly, or write it down.

The latin based ones, just need to hope they watch UK soaps or US films.

But much better to know a few words of their language and take it from there.

Only time I have needed prices written down are once in France (too fast) and once in the North East (too strong an accent).

Slowly and clearly speaking people using other west germanics are about 30% to 50% understandable by an English only speaker.

Samsung spruiks Galaxy Buds Pro performance as comparable to hearing aids

MJI Silver badge

Just got to say this.

Impaired hearing does not mean you cannot hear.

Try a mix of very sensitive at some frequencies with tinnitus.

I can hear things no one else in the family can hear, but cannot understand voices on TV when the audio compression is OTT.

ITV on Freesat is particularly terrible, my wife watches some daytime junk and quite often I cannot tell what they are saying. Luckily most ITV programming is shit.

MJI Silver badge

Re: I'd be more interested..

I had an inner ear infection a few years ago, since then bad tinnitus, and I agree that the better the kit the better the sound. Just glad I own really good speakers.

Voices through heavy compression I cannot under stand, but decent quality, fine.

Hearing damaged against poor audio compression.

Silhouette Cameo

Paid around 350 for it, already totalled one blade on plastic card.

Offers a print and cut option but need a A3 printer. But cutting is good.

However while experimenting went through sheet after sheet getting the cutting correct.

Found what it won't and will cut.

clear card, too hard, but got some 5 thou to trial.

white plastic card 10 thou straight through with 4 passes. 20 thou a good score.

Not just the craft crowd or the maker crowd but modellers as well.

Currently laminating 9 carriages of sides together 4 of 20 thou and a 10 thou outside with frames on, looks good.

So just remember that Silhouette software installs on your PC. Only pay thing is for access to other libraries or a super duper design option but it can import DXF anyway.

MJI Silver badge

Will be interesting

But then Sony own the rights to a XB exclusive.

No mention of Arkane though, they do my favourites from Zenimax.

I am currently guessing that they want the games for the games pass rather than to stop supply to other platforms.

From what I have read is that Sony and Microsoft and also to some extent Nintendo see the opposition now as mobile gaming and the new streaming platforms than each other. Owning multiple platforms is common.

Games pass is a market changer, and why the new loudspeaker alike XB is selling so well, often as a second console to PS4 & PS5 first players.
