Re: Cable Ties and powertools

Upvoted simply for the air compressor.

For me £60 well spent, even if my car spray painting is poor compared to my model spray painting.

(But then my budget air brush was £45)

Not enough grunt though to run air tools for long, the best was the air ratchet.

When the bits hit the fan: What to do when ransomware strikes

MJI Silver badge

I have been reading up on malware

It seems it works by making itself admin then terminating a lot of processes including most major SQL server processes.

Then it gets to work on the data.

Some of this ransomware is rather scary in what it can do.

What a waste of programming talent.

MJI Silver badge

To stop it

Almost all are Russian gangs.

Need to snipe Putin in the leg then release a statement.

Stop the ransomware or the next one will be a little higher.

It would stop.

Re: Haynes Manuals

Small card vs a tool box and code reader? Pay people to work on them?

Only if I HAVE to and only with a specialist.

I did use a garage for the starter motor as with a pit a 10 minute job.

But servicing I would rather do it.

Failed a pre MOT on brakes (disc wear and partially seized caliper), just spent a sunny afternoon replacing rear calipers, all 4 discs and all pads.

Took me three hours, how much in a garage?

Re: Haynes Manuals

Inaccesible parts.

I had this with last car.

I had to remove a cylinder head to do the thermostat. It should have come out but was stuck so head off.

Someone with same engine but transverse joked about it as it was an easy job for him.

Two words shut him up.

Cam Belt, on mine is was intake gumpf off, cover off cam belt accessable, his was done via a small hole in the wing.

Then 3 cam belt changes and only 1 thermostat.

MJI Silver badge

Re: "Mobile" home?

That is the problem with static caravans, I would not touch one!

MJI Silver badge

Re: "Mobile" home?

Caravans in UK

Touring Caravans - usually found behind large cars with families going on holiday.

Static Caravans - usually found in huge parks near the seaside, mix of rental and owned. Not designed for permanent use. Often aluminium sheet sided. Often shoddy and flimsy.

Mobile Homes - permanent homes of high construction standards. Often timber built. *

I grew up in a mobile home, much better made than a static caravan. At the time also by law better insulation standards than brick houses.

I also owned a tourer.

Like a bungalow with steps up to the porch.

* Mobile as in artic from factory to park, then LR from artic to plot, leave for many many years then get scrapped or sold on.
