Reg reader returns Samsung TV after finding giant ads splattered everywhere

Re: Sony as bad

That is not good as Freesat has its own decent EPG.

Not got I Player on any telephone though only PC and PS4

Re: I want a new TV anyway, is it safe

I want top end screen and electronics, lots of HDMI and SCART, and not smart, BBC Freeview text is enough.

Problem is my 12 YO panel still blows a lot of oridnary HD out of the water, but I want a PS5

Re: Only 3 years of updates

Oh my Sony is 12 years old and still working well and it is a LCD, but not 4K

MJI Silver badge

I want a new TV anyway, is it safe

As mine is a bit old and despite being 10bit not HDR compatible, also tuner despite being HD does not do Freeview HD only SD.

OK I do have a Humax PVR but I want a 4K TV for gaming.

Are Sony infected, or are they still OK?

I do normally like their TVs, so tend to buy them rather than brands I have not heard of, or Lucky Goldstar, or Samsmug (used to do good HDD though)

Re: Start Stop

Those types of calipers are nasty. They are a liability.

Eventually they will leak unrepairably.

I thought they had been removed from existence but it appears GM are cost cutting.

My last GM car had vented rear discs and parking drums

Engaging hand brakes

Do it all the time, saves blinding the person behind you and saves your leg

MJI Silver badge

Re: Start Stop

Shared hand and main brake things.

Not had that in years.

Current car has a transmission drum brake and 4 discs.

Ones prior to that had parking drums inside the rear discs.

From my experience not shared since the abolition of rear drum brakes.

Re: "[integrated combustible engine] WRONG"

And the little Ford engine, that burns too

MJI Silver badge

Cruise control

Previous car

Added cruise with switches and a firmware update

Current car

Added cruise with switches

With DBW cruise is easy, current tractor juice uses EUI so again software.

The money is in the switches, cruise is about £50 to £100 in bits and extra labour.

Re: Cheap cars

I could sell my 18 year old car for £7k at the moment

But what would I replace it with?

MJI Silver badge

Cheap cars

Buy a second hand one a few years old, cheaper than new.

MJI Silver badge

Re: "[integrated combustible engine] WRONG"

I missed that, thanks for showing it.

Now how could they think that at all?

MJI Silver badge

Re: Run ..... ?

BEcause pressing a clutch is suposed to disable cruise control, is a standard feature for CC when gearbox not auto.

Improve amount of work a staff member can do - better software = quicker working.

Company 1 - make someone redundant

Company 2 - make spare person a checker - catch errors in orders

Company 3 - ride the improvements to get more work

Often 2 becomes 3

1s are a waste of time

Paperless faxing

The last few years of faxing was server to server, often using Tobit Faxware on the Netware server, printing via a printer queue, I THINK it was HP compatible.

Our software would do invoices and they ended up at a customers on their server.

And more reliable than emailing.

Re: Car :easing and patches

BMW Audi Vauxhall

And you know which I would have prefered?

I did car delivery driving as a summer job, take a car to another garage or take to customer.

The Audi I drove once did not impress, I had earlier that day driven a Cavalier (D Reg SRI when new), I prefered the Cavalier. The garage (partner of VX garage) seemed surprised at that.

As to more upmarket, stuff it I loved the Carltons/Senators/Omegas that I had them as my own cars when I got a proper job. More room in the back of a Carlton than a 5 series.

A few I have heard of.

Normal is roll back with as much data as possible and shrug over data loss, go to an old back up and not worry about a few orders which were finished, got the data on paper.

Another is ooops barcode system left running, holding data server open, holding important data files open. Last backup restored other used files.

Another was a case of data directory only user with rights was the data server, no access for ransomware.

Another was restore from recent backups, and get running ASAP, no data loss.
