'Facebook takes data from my phone – but I don't have an account!'

Re: Checked my phone

Yes they are, and to be honest it is hard work to call someone.

Much easier on older phones.

Takes nearly a minute on my latest one.

Checked my phone

Facebook installed and slurping.

Never started it, not on any menus, where did it come from?

So uninstalled it.

My phone already has a decent messaging system on it and also a semi usable voice chat system.

However voice chat is clunky and not a patch on an old Nokia N8 I am trying to resurrect

I have to turn mine up quite a bit over the

Tyre, engine, transmission, wind, suspension, hydraulics, noises

But I can still tell how good the source is like over companded and different CDs

Cars are priority

Main usage of radio is in cars.

When I was young we had independant local radio, small stations for your local area with local news, music and staff.

Then the big merger.

Last time I used them was on a motorway trip 5 radio stations all with different DJs playing the same songs.

Most channels now have inane DJs so now prefer chat radio to music.

BBC local OK in morning, but on trip home, recently replaced chat with old people music. Music from 60s and 70s for people old then.

Tried R4, it is either listenable or instant turn off. When something important is happening good, otherwise now lots of inane drivel. They once repeated the same article 3 times in a row with no gaps, was probably more but by then a CD was playing.

My biggest hate though is misuse of traffic announcements.

Listening to local news or traffic and traffic for London starts sprouting off and I cannot remember how to disable without manual. And I have to keep disconnecting battery while doing suspension repairs, (It has had 4 in last year, 2 to go), otherwise it could crush me*

Protect from government

Well we have the following

Elections, can get rid of.

A Monarch, able to dissolve if required. Don't think ever used.

A military sworn to alliegance to said Monarch NOT government. So if government tried it on military would say no and their head would dissolve the government.

Perhaps it will become civilised over there if you rejoined the Commonwealth. Perhaps you could even have a President who is also a Royal!

Re: Video games

I play shooter video games.

So why haven't I been running around shooting lots of violent aliens in the face?

Done both Dishonoured and Dishonoured 2 with no kills as it was more fun evading and no fun killing innocent civilians.

One question to ask with lots of answers

How did the killer get his hands on the gun cabinet keys?

Our neighbour shoots and not even his wife knows where the keys are as stipulated by law.

Fly tipping

There is a nice BOAT on my commute, I use it on sunny days when not in a hurry.

Once saw fly tippers drive in as I left. Next time I see one I am going to bully them into the mud so they get stuck then drive off.

Or take pictures and get them to follow me, and of course they would get stuck!

Those are the sort of roads Solihulls finest can deal with errant vans, especially when in groups.

Were not bad

Still have a working radio cassette at 35 years old. Even has chrome and Dolby B.

Goldstar were a cheap brand but not too shoddy.

I rated them as one of the better cheap and cheerful brands.

No real competition at the time to the major Japanese brands but better than the pretend far east brands prevelant at the time.

Lost relatives to it.

Nearly got killed by it (near RTA caused by ash in eyes at speed from car in front).

If vaping saves lives and saves on cancer surgery, good, just keep it regulated to avoid exploding vapourisers.

Wanted that Windows 10 update but have an Intel SSD? Computer says no

MJI
Silver badge

This downdate is causing hell here

And why our next system WILL be multi platform.

Large custom written WIN32 application talking to a database server using various stuff over IP (I write the software but we buy in a popular server with native ISAM access and very well emulated SQL access).

Vertical market so big fish in a puddle.

Anyway the LAN changes have buggered up the data server client and stopped it working, and since SAP bought Sybase support has been ruined.

Microsoft's latest Windows 10 update downs Chrome, Cortana

MJI
Silver badge
Stop

This update is fucking us over!

We have just had to put out a customer wide email as it prevents the client side of our database software communicating with the server.

Been using it for over 20 years, very stable, until W10.

And the company was bought by SAP who have ruined support.

A few 10 PCs in our office have been "updating" for a few hours and not yet usable.

FDISK and Windows 7 would be a great cure.

If you like sporty cars you will try to get one.

But we also had a permanent opt out on Euro as Pound is still a major currency. Also had opt out on closer integration.

But we were still popular for our skilled high tech industries and major financial trading.

And how many leave voters realised that the EU trading capital would be moving from CoL?

Most recently XH558 climbing over Pershore.

Petty PETA rapped by judges over monkey selfie copyright stunt

MJI
Silver badge

Captivity - stupid

There is an animal in our house which loves it there, it is fed, looked after, played with, taken on walks.

If we evicted it, it would come straight home again.

However it would not survive in the wild as it needs regular grooming, I cannot see our dog learning to trim her own fur.

Dogs, a human created species which loves living on our homes.

House cats, a small carnivore which has been bred for living with humans.

Two species who live with us as members of our families, not captives. So fuck off PETA!

Reg writer Richard went to the cupboard, seeking a Windows Phone...

MJI
Silver badge

Phones are getting more annoying.

Nearly destroyed my current work Android a few times, as the POS will not unlock unless you do it very carefully, but of course I get rattier and rattier.

Camera is annoying, trying to zoom it out after zooming in and suddenly my face appears on the screen. Why the fuck do I want to see my ugly mug unless shaving?

Previous two are with sons, one is wrecked through being washed, the later one is OK as he doesn't wash it under the tap.

I really really miss my old Nokia Symbian phone, easy to use and a decent camera with decent lens.

I wonder what we will get next contract, lets just say I really hope it isn't Koreas biggest phone maker again.

Brexit has shafted the UK's space sector, lord warns science minister

MJI
Silver badge

Brexshit WILL be a disaster.

They all keep on about better trade agreements, best offer is same as we have in EU.

Lots of businesses will up sticks and move.

The EU WILL give grants to build new car factories in Eastern Europe for the Japanese manufactures to move to.

Lots of young people are looking to move over with the jobs.

Already been a few financial sector leaving parties as they head off to Dublin and Amsterdam.

Also I have noticed that quite a few leave voters have no idea why they voted out, one was worried about his job being given away to a foreigner (job is safe silly reason), anothe because we were NOT Shengen and Euro (WTF).

My personal view better to be in pissing out. Yes EU is bloated, but think of the trade, think what WAS the EU financial capital.

UK consumer help bloke Martin Lewis is suing Facebook over fake ads

MJI
Silver badge

So easy to distinguish

Random person posting, no fees.

This is user generated content, this is what FB is _supposed_ to be about.

Dodgy adverts

Posted out via advertising system, not a random post, paid, they do know about it otherwise how would they know to send it to everyone.

Facebook are guilty and they know it. It is NOT UGC but targeted ads.
