Ah, so we can assume that $199 is with the $20-30 per month for 24 month contract "tax". Then again, it's likely the iPhone carriers don't have "low rent" plans that don't include a new phone every other year. But hey, it's cheaper up front anyway.

It's a fact that many of them return after their education to help raise the standards back "home" and find highly productive and profitable jobs. This is especially true given the current economic climate as costs tend to be lower and opportunities more available. In the case of China, many of the best and brightest are state sponsored with the intent of getting a world class education and bringing it back to keep the economic growth going through research, business and education.

That said, you may be right and it may not be racism but it certainly is ignorance. After all, it's a well-known fact that many people can't look past their own pride colored glasses.

To my knowledge the Matrix is a has been a US only version built in the joint Pontiac plant in California. Now that Pontiac is dead and the plant is closed, I'm guessing production has moved to Japan. That said, it seems likely that the cost of hybridizing the Matrix only makes sense when rebadged as a Lexus. I just wish they had done a hybrid Vibe so it would be several grand cheaper... then again, I'm a bit of a skinflint.

I'm thinking you replied to the wrong message. I haven't seen anyone lambaste Ms. Kunis or any other actor for that matter. My point was that if she was best known for "That 70s Show" then it is the equivalent of saying she is unknown. Much before today, I would have never recognized her name which I thought proved the point. That you admit not knowing if she is any good is perhaps a good indication that you haven't seen a sufficient body of her work to judge so she is to you, like me, unknown.

As far as "That 70s Show", I did see it... once and IIRC that was enough to tell me it wasn't worth watching again. Then again, perhaps it was Ashton Kutcher who turned me off the show, now that I have looked up the cast and found he was on it. There see, a little A.K. ribbing, not exactly a lambasting was it.

Here it the Southland life is bittersweet. Sure cheap meds and tequila are a fairly quick drive to TJ, or Mexicali when I have to visit the plant, but damn it would be cheaper to do it with TDI.

Is Cali and the US the only people who still measure emissions in ppm? It seems to me that g/km or even grains/hectofurlong makes infinitely more sense. I know it's harder to measure than the part idle/simulated load, make stuff up, that they use now but they can cry me a river.

Stew. I'm sure it also helps to inhibit the stench as it decays and makes disposal easier as all you really need to do is get rid of the bones once the kids and village dogs have been fed. I imagine it would take too much time stewing large bones to get them to that brittle and easily crushed state chicken bones get after making a stock.

Why is that? The PS3 hacking lawsuit, the PSN network data breach, the battery problems from years ago? It's a $25B company that makes many varied products; batteries, cameras, laptops, game consoles, music, movies, etc. I'd be shocked if a fault in one segment made even a ripple through the rest of the company. Perhaps if it had, they would have handled the PSN breach better and wouldn't have had their music website in Greece or the Sony Ericsson site in Canada cracked open. Seriously, did I miss something?

That said, you're absolutely right that most folks have the attention span of a gnat and buy things with little thought or reason. The saying no such thing as bad press is too often true and accounts for why simple brand recognition will sell nearly anything from pole to pol.

18 months? Lucky

On this side of the pond they insist on boning us for 24 months so we can have the privilege of paying an extra $25 per month, which doesn't go away. [Insert t-mob/@&T merger rant here]

I actually think a fair number of the Apple faithful buy a new one every year. I've met several through several friends who have bought the second hand units. I feel most of the iPhone growth is in the $49 3GS market where folks can meet an Android price, have their brand and if it will take iOS 5, eat their cake too. Frankly it's the best marketing move by Apple since they launched the iPhone 4.

Also, add to the ARM lag because Apple are designing their own chips. It's a lot easier for the Android crowd to pick the best from the growing number of available chips from companies that are all out to leapfrog each other and not be tied to a single companies design cycle.

Oh yeah

3D is way better than the simple mono headsets I see growing out of the ears of so many obviously important people. I do hope they turn up the power so we don't have to wait so long before they kick.

But it's dumb

It's just a receiver and as a result doesn't know the first "photon ack" sent wasn't a a flood of light and assumes it's speaking to a 14 yr old so when it sends its flooded "syn" back, the originator says ok, granny's hearing aid is out so I'll have to dumb it down and talk loud. At least that's how I read it.
