it's not really a great clock, is it? a clock should be consistent.

the sun rose at 5am this morning. it will set at 21:12 tonight - although it's not actually "dark" until well past 10pm.

but in January, the sun doesn't rise until 8am and it sets at 16:19. Your so-called "Sun" clock either requires that we all are allowed to work felxible hours during the year, or that our bosses don't mind if we fall asleep at our desks on winter afternoons (at least, without having to hide it)

yes, i think you are. the way i understood the patent was that (if enabled) the phone wouldn't require you to unlock the screen via pin or fingerprint sensor if it knows that you are at home. in your home, for most people, it's unlikely that you're phone has been stolen, so the security measures are a pain in the neck.

also, i would expect this feature, if it ever appears, is a user option. so if you don't trust the people you live with, you don't have to enable it.

I'm sure i saw an episode of Columbo or Diagnosis Murder or some other daytime 80s police proceedural where the wrong'un of the episode did exactly that with a camera to photograph the security keypad on a door so they could break in a kill the victim.

that size is only 50% bigger than the iPod Nano (6th gen) that worked very well on a watch strap. if there's any truth in this rumour then i suspect we'll see a rectangular screen, so the screen will be aboutsize as the 7th gen ipod nano. if so, then it's going to curve around your wrist i guess.

well, that already happened with iPhones. but turns out, the miscreants weren't actually killing people's phones - they'd just phished their account ids and passwords and then activated the kill switch. which many were able to by-pass by a simple phone reset.

So as long as Microsoft and Google implement it in a secure manner, it should remain sufficiently difficult for your miscreants to do it.

+1 for Sophos. Have it on all of mine - seems to run nice and quitely in the background, routinely picks up malware in email attachements and zaps them, never hear from it the rest of the time. and it's free, but uses the same virus definitions as the paid-for windows software does

More interesting is the No Comment one at the same time, but in the big room that the keynote was in. Surely that's for further details on something that will only be revealed during the Keynote itself.

Or perhaps it's Tim Cook, blatantly wearing the unannounced iWatch, standing in front of a 100" TV with an Apple logo on the case, wearing a pair of Ray-bans that you can just make out the inverted image of an iOS screen displayed on the inside of the lenses, but just spending an hour replying "No comment" to every question...

it's funny - i have exactly the same problem when i'm here at work using a PC keyboard.

it makes NO sense having the single quote and the double quote keys on completely opposite sides of the keyboard.

you'll notice the colon and semi-colon are on the same key. so why not quote and double-quote?!?!?

But just about EVERYthing can do basic email and web access these days. Being "just as good as everything else for doing the most basic of tasks" shouldn't be a major selling point of a device.

Godfather 2 might be able to stand on its own.

+1 that the app can't sync what's been listened to and what hasn't.

But despite that, i like the Podcast interface and it makes it much easier to organise your podcast subscriptions.

I've abandoned the podcast maangement within iTunes on the desktop. I just use the Podcast app on the phone to manage the subscriptions and it works verywell, downloading the newest shows when they become available, or for those with a large back catalogue, keeping three (or a number of your choice) of un-listened-to episodes on the phone whenever I have wifi connection.

So yes, the integration between the two isn't great. But I'm glad they did create a seperate app as now i no longer have to ensure i sync with iTunes before i go to work each morning as the phone's already updated it content before i wake up.

Philips are tragically late too. Surely it would have been far better a couple of years ago, in the height of Wii-mania, when Nintendo would have been happy to pay a large settlement. Now, is it even worth the cost of the lawyers to settle and avoid the impact to what few Wii U's they might sell?

a better solution is just to wait for someone else to do all that, AND record the two hidden tracks, and upload the .ogg files to usenet or something, then download and play on your digital device

The most pointless and useless of the current versions of social networking.

This is the mistake that everyone has made (especially all those who bought the shares).

Twitter isn't really a social network. That's just a small part of it. It's really a media platform. The real value is not in letting you (the average Joe on the street) tell your friends what you're currently doing in under 140 characters. That is what Facebook is for.

The value in Twitter is to the celebrities. It's a simple way for them to broadcast messages to their fans, who are all following them, without having to pay attention to what any of those fans are doing, or asking back. And when they have something to sell, it's perfect direct marketing to the precise audience who are going to be buying it.

I actively use Twitter, reading tweets of people i'm interested in or sites who's news i want to follow. I don't tweet anything myself and only a couple of the people that i follow do i actually know in real life. and none of them really tweet anything either.

I think there is a real market for Twitter, if used for this kind of thing. and as such, it works well the way that the BBC and even El Reg make use of it. it's almost the inverse of Facebook. But unfortunatley it has been labelled a social network, so everyone assumes it's identical to Facebook.

Days of Future Past? But why is it so bad? the plot for the film comes from the story arc in the comics that had that same title. so the title for the film seems rather apt, telling you exactly which plotline from the comic it is adapting to the film.

and considering the plot is all about the people in the future going back into the past to fix the errors made there and so save everyone from persecution in the future, it's not too bad. it's much along the lines of Back to the Future, as a grammatically convoluted title goes.
