Roughly 30 years after its birth at UK's Acorn Computers, RISC OS 5 is going open source

Vector drawing

Another thing Riscos has had since Day One, built in as part of the rom, is the quite sophisticated application !Draw. As a result, vector art has been taken for granted in Acornland since 1987, and every other application on the platform knows how to handle a drawfile. By comparison, few everyday users in the Windows or Apple worlds have any idea of the distinction between vector and bitmap.

Thumb Up

Re: Milk in Bags?

And when the Canadian milk bag is empty, it's flat -- unlike those rigid plastic UK milk containers that take up as much space empty as they do full.

Moreover, the sturdy one-litre Canadian bags are exactly the right size to hold folded letter-size paper, so wash them and repurpose them for filing.

I'd welcome it if UK supermarkets were to move to bagged milk.

Europol existed long before the EU (or EC or EEC), didn't it?

Who are the biggest electric car liars - the BBC, or Tesla Motors?

even more of a lifetime parked?

The average car spends 95% of its lifetime parked. Would Richard Branson buy a jumbo jet and leave it cluttering the tarmac for 95% of its lifetime? The population of abandoned cars blighting our urban landscapes (and a parked car is a temporarily abandoned car, an unwanted car, a liability rather than a benefit, to its owner as well as to everybody else) doubles every few years. When are we as a civilization going to grasp the nettle and begin to ask whether we *need* so many cars? Electric or otherwise. Let's have fewer vehicles (and fewer crazy drivers) and let each vehicle serve somebody else when the first user has achieved destination.

What a pane

I'm surprised nobody yet has had a rant about those aggravating credit-card-sized scrolling panes that they expect you to read their T&Cs in. No wonder we all just tick their box. Surely that's their plan.
