Facebook/MySpace, etc., they're mostly garbage. Entertainment is the primary value, but, living in America where movie and sports stars are paid millions of $$$ annually, there is great value in embracing that old canard "there's a sucker born every minute."

The way I read this is that the Supreme's just decided that they didn't want to review it.
I guess their attitude is "do we have to review everything!?". They're right. The original stupid ruling the one the Virgina prosecuter was appealing), was handed down by the Virginia State Supreme Court (see Sep. 2008 article in the Reg's related-links section).
The US Supreme Court doesn't have time to review every stupid ruling made by lower courts. They're probably wishing, just like the rest of us, that Virginia had competent judges in the first place. Maybe if they let the moronic ruling stand, the Virginia voters might actually pay attention to the qualifications of the Idiots they vote into service. (Well, I can dream, can't I?)
If I understand my plan correctly, AT&T charges for every message *delivered*. So, if you're sending broadcast messages to a 25 person list (e.g. if you're one of the 'social organizers' in your clique), you can hit the 400/month limit pretty darn quickly ... Yeah, with teens, "unlimited" is definately the right option for any wireless plan. (I think they have too much time on their hands.)
A most excellent and timely article. I just spent the better part of two days researching, scanning, and cleaning up a laptop infected w/ a variant of this crap! (His desktop system is scheduled for a purge on Tuesday -- long weekend here in the West.) It's nice to know that (so far, anyway) this junk is just trying to extort cash. It'll suck when they start using stuff like this to root around our disks for data and send keystroke logs back to the mothership.
I just wish our anti-virus software had caught the Trojan EXE *before* the user executed it.
