Brazilians strip Amazon of brazen .amazon gTLD grab bid

Grave

Re: @Grave

thats what country code top-level domains are for

how are you going to argue about locations which share the same name??

so which of these should have the right for New York: New York in Lincolnshire, New York in North Yorkshire, New York in Tyne and Wear, New York in Kentucky, New York in Texas or New York in New York?

and if you dolts insist - why shouldn't amazon belong to a nation of all-female warriors from greek mythology? (or a group of people representing such an idea)

Grave

Re: @Grave

and what was your point again?? where do i state first world government is any better?

not the point. stupid is strong with this one.

Grave

yeah except its called "amazonas" in those countries. sounds more like an extortion racket by a corrupt third world government

PRISM scandal: Brit spooks operated within the law, say politicos

Grave

just because its "legal" doesn't make it right (in a number of senses, moral, ethical, etc)

laws are made by parasites in power to keep them in power and protected

and likewise, just because something deemed "illegal" doesn't make it wrong (a number of morally/ethically directed actions comes to mind, which are being pushed by cartels for criminalization and harsher sentences than stuff that does real, not imaginary harm to people - violent crimes, murder, assault, rape, etc)

Unreal: Epic’s would-be Doom... er... Quake killer

Grave

Re: Unreal Tournament & II for me

different approach to gameplay

quake - long distance combat and movement, movement rubbery (thanks to a "game feature" called momentum) - when strafing left then you change to strafing right you still strafe left for a bit then rubber band pulls you to right. "feature" strafe running = bug exploit

unreal - fast close range combat and movement, very fast turns and instant movement changes. needs much better reflexes and twitch skills :) "dodge" movement built in from the start as a design choice.

Re: You can't.

i'm not sure how it would work, but patents/copyrights should be in a competition, maybe different patent/copyright "providers" and customers would choose the best one for themselves (cheapest prices, best service, etc)

Grave

maybe patents and copyright "laws" should be subject to the same free market structures as the rest of so called "free" western capitalist social structure??

you know, supply and demand unhindered by external regulation or control by government or monopolies

Snowden's Australian 'revelations' are old news

Grave

Re: What's Going On?!?

and isn't leaking information supposed to be, you know, like leaking and not a flood.

parasites in power will do anything and everything when it comes to damage control (using media lapdogs, etc)

-discredit the source (using all the usual social taboos, rape, cporn, etc)

-spread misinformation, plant false information, etc

-spread fud

-disappear the source ("accident", "suicide", "robbery gone wrong", "foreign" intelligence victim, etc)

Snowden: US and Israel did create Stuxnet attack code

Grave

Re: Stuxnet

so isnt that an act of war? if the roles were reversed, usa would be whining to the high sky and then invading and destroying everything. how infantile.

US Navy coughs $34.5m for hyper-kill railgun that DOESN'T self-destruct

Grave

Re: Revolutionise what?

can you actually buy it? because last i read it was only rd and wasnt used in service anywhere (usa tried to develop these but it went nowhere, even after stealing some of the russian designs :)). shkval can change course too and its been in service for decades, newer versions rumored to go 560km/h

Grave

Re: Revolutionise what?

if there was only naval warfare available, russia would be on the top with their supercavitating shkval torpedoes. how do you defend against 370km/h torpedo when yours only go 80km/h, it would be like shooting fish in a barrel :)

Grave

Re: Game changing?

all hitscan weapons are easily botted, and require only good aim

now rockets on the other hand, that takes some real skills, aim, prediction and movement :)

3-2-1... BOOM: Russian rocket launches, explodes into TOXIC FIREBALL

Grave

Re: mass driver

just to point out common misconception. stuff doesn't burn up/glow red from air friction. it heats up because of air compression (thats also why air hand pump gets hot as you compress air)

couldnt this be mitigated to a degree by using specific capsule shape, or even stuff like cavitation/supercavitation (which is used by russian shkval torpedoes to travel significantly faster than ordinary ones - 370km/h vs 80km/h). air is a fluid after all

and wouldnt it be possible to generate a tunnel or a vacuum channel in atmosphere using lasers/etc? would be like riding the lightning :)

Grave

Re: mass driver

non living stuff obviously

building it at high altitude like 7-8 km mountain range and you will have to deal with orders of magnitude less atmosphere, etc

not to mention low cost per kg

although you could launch humans with mass driver, the launch platform would have to be hundreds of kilometers long for comfortable gforce levels.

Grave

mass driver

i wonder when someone finally decides to build a mass driver instead of these outdated rockets

i wouldn't be surprised if its chinese and its somewhere in karakoram range

Re: Shortage

makes you wonder just how far the body modularity goes (and is ultimately even physical brain replaceable, thus making you as a person a virtual entity - and if so, you could live forever, even relive forever, do backups. well live more in a sense of existence, if a terminology of life is tied into biological life).

ghost in a shell, bodies as a remote access equipment, possibilities limitless :)

as for shortage, think out of the box, like for example research into cloning bodies, genetic engineering (making ideal bodies, grown without brain for ethical purposes, etc)

this will have far reaching consequences if it works,

Re: Fastest Trip

while the aliens used tripple redundancy in clarke's rama, i'd go for a quad redundancy (three is such a pretentious number, lucky my #$% :)).

1. primary engine <-> secondary engine = switching between these works on-the-fly without need to turn either on/off

2. and then a mirror backup for the entire primary setup (preferably in a different ship section, in a case of a major failure like losing that part of a ship)

Grave

whats wrong with having engine/engines on sides? that way you only have to turn the engines and not entire craft :)

Re: pathetic

sorry for not being able to explain it my initial post more clearly.

i'm not sure how to better explain what i meant, by saying "propaganda" i did not mean "what they say about nk" is not true or that i support nk, but about how its repeated over and over to point out the negatives about a preselected group of targets to divert public attention from domestic problems.

karma bit was meant for those in power. they will eventually get whats coming to them. sadly as history goes it ends up with millions of innocent suffering or worse.

Grave

Re: pathetic

i was going to skip any replies, but you've taken the time to post a lengthy one so i'm adding a bit

i've grown up in a former eastern bloc country so you don't have tell me what to like or dislike (without any political affiliation). i most certainly am and always was against any establishments and authority, be it obvious totalitarian regimes, or well obscured western plutarchic capitalist regimes. you're not without guilt when it comes to critical situations in number of former/current totalitarian regimes, allowing psychopaths to raise in power just because the regime they leech off of is different from the one of your overlords, or because they can make a profit from or sabotage competing regimes.

i just have a distaste for subliminal persuasion and propaganda which has been going on for centuries, perpetrated by parasites in power. always finding, or making external scapegoats and enemies, to divert public attention from their pitiful little power games.

Grave

pathetic

so you keep lapping up the koolaid your overlords have been spilling. just pathetic how people gang up on whatever target their overlords point them to for the blame or as a scapegoat, be it former eastern block countries, cuba, vietnam, iraq, iran, north korea and so on.

propaganda at its worst. you will have no one else to blame but yourself when the crap hits your own fan. you know, "what goes around comes around", or less poetic "karma is a bitch"

Re: Capitalism

i'm afraid the only way out of this misery is possible only after we reach technological singularity (and the ruling parasites are fighting the progression towards it at every step, derailing promising tech in favor of dead end technologies - the ones which do not lead to any progression towards technological singularity and which allow the most subliminal control, sidetracking population towards technological banalities)
