NO APPLES TODAY

Believe it or not, there are people like me why survive and indeed prosper without having the shiny gadgets you all seem to find essential.

I do have a cell plone - which is used for Phone Calls in my Car.

On those rare occasions that it is needed for an Emergency or Breakdown.

I do not stare at the screen while walking , so I am not likely to injure myself by hitting obstructions, falling into holes ,or getting hit by Vehicles not noticed .

Life did proceed quite well and successfully before Cell Phones .

Most of the time these objects are just great TIME WASTERS.

My History book says in 1066 , England became part of France,(well Normandy) when Willy came over and caught Harold when he was having a hard time.

He had just defeated some invaders up North , and after marching up there ,having a Battle and marching back down again , his Army wasn't at its best.

A bit of different timing and History would have been very different.

Re: "...required for safe and effective weapons delivery." - RAF

Greetings ,

Early in WW2 the RAF was very civilised and did not bomb Civilians as it was consided by the Planners to be important to behave as Gentlemen.

Lots of bits of Paper were thrown out over Germany telling them to be sensible and surrender.

Things changed quite a bit after the Hun did the Blitz on Britain. He had done similar things to Civilians in Spain,Holland , Yugoslavia and Poland before that.

The Americans don't bomb Civilians ,they just do Colateral Damage instead.

The story I remember is that the computer on the Sheffield did a reboot as the attack was getting under way, and then another ship came along and got in the way of Sheffield doing anything at a vital moment.

Computers probably continue with that annoying habit today.

London Blitz bomb web map a hit-and-miss affair

elderlybloke

Re: Fascinating but.....

The carpet bombing of German cities was only done after the RAF had tried daylight bombing of military targets and suffered heavy casualties .

They switched to night bombing to reduce their losses ,but night bombing without any radar or any other aid early in war was a

very hit and miss appair. Mainly miss , with only about 5% of bombs getting within 5 miles of the target.

Carpet bombing did not start until 1942 when Bomber Command had built up sufficient numbers to acheive some success.

The bombing of civilian targets by the Germans was mainly in 1940 and 1941.

They did try to create a Fire Storm in London on one raid but failed as the second wave was cancelled due to bad weather.

Bombing was the only way of taking the war to the Germans, until the Invasion in June 1944.

It is just as well for the post war generations that the Germans did not win , as they would have treated you like the other enslaved people of Europe.

PS. madra, perhaps you should read up on WW2, you are a bit uninformed at the moment.
