How to relieve Microsoft's Surface RT piles problem

Ramazan

@Michael Shelby: Re: SecureBoot is not the problem

I'm not buying a Surface [RT] because I can't install Debian on it.

Ding-dong, Cthulu calling: Infogrames’ 1992 Alone in the Dark

Ramazan

Re: same will ... if I were to replay it in 10 years’ time

Maybe not if you were to play it the first time 10 years from now. I find the whole "great for the period" argument rather moot. Some games (like StarControl II, Ultima 7 BG/SI, RoA StarTrail, SystemShock II, DeusEx (the 1st one) etc) are great for any period, not sure about Alone in the Dark though - I didn't like it then, I don't like it now, so maybe it's great just not for my taste.

Re: Turkey has common borders with Syria, Iraq and Iran blah blah blah

99.9% of heroin comes to UK via Turkey. Nothing would change at all if Turkey was EU member, your argument is totally irrelevant here.

It IS matter of culture, religion and race, maybe, if you factor the former two in the definition of race.

Ramazan

Re: why Israel isn't in both NATO and the European Common Market

Yet Turkey IS in NATO, being neither Northern, nor Atlantic state. And of course, Turkey has nothing to do with Europe at all, as the territories it holds west of Bosphorus and Dardanelles have been illegally occupied.

In fact the other way round - they also develop GNU/Hurd (they had it running half a dosen years ago IIRC), and recently, GNU/kFreeBSD

Article didn't tell anything about SIM card size - is it regular miniSIM, ridiculous microSIM or idiotic nanoSIM?

Cheap or not, you've got to fight for your right to have it. Otherwise food might constitute anything from 0 to 100% if you surrender manufacturing rights to capitalists.

Re: to destroy many a British industry in the 60's and 70's

FFS, British industries destroyed themselves without any help from unions (they started to decline, so did salaries/conditions, then people started to protest, not the other way round).

Ramazan

Re: It does not matter how poor or desperate someone is

Yes, and let me extend this notion for ya - no matter how stupid their religion or beleives or their leaders are or how primitive or savage their culture is and no matter how powerful you are relative to them, you must never take away their dignity.

For PITY'S SAKE, DON'T BUY an iPHONE 5S, begs FSF

Ramazan

iSkipped 5/5S/5C

But the reason was The Ever Shrinking Apple's SIM Card Format. I've cut my wife's miniSIM to microSIM when I've boght her iPhone 4S and I've bought separate microSIM for her iPad 2, but I won't subject myself to these inconveniencies anymore. I've grown tired of that marketing shit, so no nanoSIMs and no more microSIMs either. I want to use plain old miniSIMs, and I want smartphone's storage to be accessible as USB mass storage device (a la Amazon Kindle), and no stinking iTunes, please. There are absolutely no technical reasons for requiring smaller SIM for iPhone 4 series and even smaller for iPhone 5 ones.

That's a crucial difference - Linus wasn't a resource, at least not a replaceable one. Just like Guido van Rossum was until jokes about bus running over Guido stopped as Python gained [dev community] momentum.

Google Nexus 7 2013: Fondledroids, THE 7-inch slab has arrived

Ramazan

Re: how a 35% difference can really be considered "reasonably close"

1. 50% is a lot, 35% is reasonably close

2. considering that the 35% price difference is between XXX device and Apple device, the latter is a bargain in fact

Finns, roamers, Nokia: So long, and thanks for all the phones

Ramazan

Re: the first iPhone was laughable by European (ie: Nokia) standards

"the list of features it didn't have that were standard on Nokia phones is as long as your arm". In fact, the first iPhone was so much greater than all European phones together, that even without MMS support it was _far_ greater than anything else.

Jury reckons Motorola wasn't 'fair and reasonable' to Microsoft

Ramazan

Darkness of Greed

Nothing interesting here except that the jury were objective this time. "Fair and reasonable" is hard to define, but most probably other licensees disclosed amounts of their payments to Motorola so jury were able to calculate statistically significant mean and STD.
