Microsoft howls as Google turns IE into Chrome

WTF?

I call foul

"Updating these browsers could break enterprise apps."

As a 10-year enterprise app developer, I call foul. If the apps break, hire some developers to update them or replace them. It sounds to me like they don't want to mess up the interface. It's quite simple to update the application interface (compared to the business logic that is much more important and critical to the application).

This excuse has been trotted out time and time again. Are programmers that expensive or are companies that uncomfortable with making updates?

Flame

The word is FAIL as in you FAILED

When you FAIL at something, that means you did not do what you intended to do.

I would think that the trolls complaining about the word Fail should post a blog about it, and express their outrage there.

Instead they troll the comments section. How about talking about Alpha instead of hijacking the thread? thanks in advance!

BTW, welcome to the Internet. You seem new. Don't start flame wars. If you don't like this website, don't come here. Send criticism about their journalism to their e-mail address. Public drama won't help your case.

Bashing MS?

@AC: No one is bashing the company. They are bashing the policies for their new app and phone software.

The company has already been proven a monopoly, and these are the same tactics. So it's 100% reasonable to expect more lawsuits over these decisions. The company itself is not the issue.

Standard rules are there to protect the monopoly. Perhaps a new standard is needed.

Finally, don't get upset when someone complains about a company's policy. You don't need to defend them. Just wait and see if they change their policies or do not. Crying about it, and belittling this website as a technical source won't help anyone.

McAfee website visited by plague of security locusts

McAfee has failed at security?

Ditch 'em!

There is no need to support 'corporate welfare'. Clearly they cannot be trusted to take care of security (as their business attests is their mission).

I hope everyone sees this as an irresponsible action on McAfee's part, and they go out of business. After all, what good are they?

In reality: they are a business trying to make money; they probably laid off most of their staff and now they are up the creek. Greed trumps security.

It's not your job, but others out there

others out there know how to do the job!

I work with end-users, from call center reps to executives. They tell me quite plainly what they are looking for.

What they don't tell you, is that they hate learning new technology. Case in point: I developed a system identical to twitter, but it required a web server. I don't have funds to throw away hosting twitter websites for anonymous users, so the app required a web server.

Twitter popped up as a web service, and it has taken the Internet community by storm. Since there is no 'technological hurdle' to jump over, Twitter has been successful.

Once Microsoft learns that most users hate programming, then perhaps their operating systems and online services will get better.

You'd think that after Vista, they would 'get over themselves', and realize that they aren't providing the customer what they want, they are not truthful about what the customer receives (see: Ultimate edition), and security is difficult for Microsoft to address.

I don't really find your website funny per-se, but I like the tone. You're not afraid to publish security news that might make someone look bad.

What I would like to see more of: Remind people that software and PCs are not emotional. In the last week I read an interesting "emo" article about a guy who was getting a message from Twitter that said "you have used all of your searches, please try again later". These types of things are for security, but the blogger took it personally, and very emotionally. I find that distressing. I suppose it is the layman's anthropomorphizing the website... treating it like a person, when really, it doesn't 'care'.

So Microsoft, where do I purchase a copy of Windows XP for my new computer that I put together from parts? You don't sell it anymore, as far as I know. What seems to be the problem with copying it now?

I will not install Vista because there is no reason to waste electricity on a ridiculous interface, I don't need UAC because I know what I'm doing. I want XP.

I think companies like Microsoft need to wake up. It's ridiculous. Do they realize that from my point of view, they have BURNED all of the goodwill they earned over the last few decades?
