Lately I've taken to answering "meh", amazingly I've been getting the best cuts ever!

Re: Surprised Prometheus.....

+1 mate, really disappointing movie. Has Scott totally forgotten how to make a decent flic?

Alien was brill - and actually scary - Blade Runner was excellent. Even today both movies looks as fresh as you like, yet this was tripe. Why??? Too much CGI maybe?

Yer man Fassbender was truly excellent though - where did this guy come from.. every movie he's been is has been class. I'd watch it again for him alone.

Which qualifications are worthwhile?

FreeTard

Do a BSc at night

I'm currently doing a BSc in IS & IT - management, project management, databases, coding along with the usual sciencey bits. Even though I have another degree, and many multiples of industry certs, I have found what I have learned so far to be of great help is my job - in IT.

One year to go for the finals and then I'll likely do an MSc in something, or another degree in yet another field (for a laugh). Sure it gets me out of the house!

If you want to advance in IT then it is a great start. Plus employers will take you more seriously.

Re: Lenovo Thinkpads are not IBM Thinkpads

I cannot speak for the newer lenovo's but the X60s & X61s's are rock solid.

Case in point - my daughter dropped BOTH of them down the stairs - from the top, yet they work fine.

I've dropped them off the coach many times, no issues. My son is a disaster zone and manages to drop things when you tell him to be careful - yet they still work flawlessly.

My daughter dropped my ibook ONCE, it died horrifically - the screen came off completely, parts across the floor - this was the same drop that the thinkpads endured with hardly a scratch.

As for Dells, I can only speak of their business range, but I am very happy with my latitude, only complaint is the screen is too big for my liking - but feck me the battery lasts long... I managed en entire day of almost constant use. That's bloody amazing for a laptop.

Up your wormhole: Star Trek Deep Space 9 turns 20

FreeTard

+1

Did the same myself, but it took me 5 months to get through all the seasons. Great show - apart from the season they were stuck in a void or whatever it was (The water starved system of planets). That season was shite enough. Loved the rest though.

FreeTard

Re: Trek downhill since then

Couldn't disagree more. I did enjoy voyager, but didn't really like Janeway. She was far too much Dr. Quinn for my liking. As for Enterprise, now that was an excellent show. OK series one started off a bit pants, but the rest of it was great.

FreeTard

Mixed feelings

I didn't like some of the actors, notably Cisco - the way he spoke just pissed me off.

Same goes for the one with the wierd nose, she was shite.

I think the entire show would have been better if they just killed that planet of moaners with the noses.

Basically the entire show was shite - although I did watch all the seasons...

Loved the Ferengi and Odo all the same.

Re: So what do you say to Microsoft

Bollox, I'm a Linux only user for the past 10+ years but this Christmas I bought a Dell XPS10 - my first windows since NT4.

I'm quite impressed with WinRT, the responsiveness is excellent, switching apps - and I launched a ton of them - was very fast. The only thing that annoyed me was the network sharing. Yes I could manually plug into to a samba share via //servername/sharename but it didn't integrate as well as expected. It wants to use something called a homegroup. I didn't bother setting it up as I couldn't be arsed.

In fact, I don't even own a mobile telephone. But I have replaced an absolute shed load of them for my wife and kids. An awful lot of these smartphones seem to be quite flimsy, drop them and the screen cracks, battery life is shite etc etc.

i base this entirely on observations and having to fork out the cash for poxy new phones all the time.

My daughter has a crack across the screen of her brand new galaxy S advanced. Luckily I have it insured, but she wants to wait until she "really" breaks it before putting the claim in.

When the wife broke her 5th telephone, I sellotaped up her old broken nokia e71 and that's that.

She is "very" "happy" now, embarrassed to bejaesus mind, but meh.

The one thing that the jesus phone has going for it is that it seems to be more knock resistant.

I'm still not buying her a new one mind.

There's no way anyone will do any real work on an ipad. A quick email maybe, but nothing more.

I will never replace my laptop with an ipad. They are nothing more than a gimmick.

My desktop no longer gets powered on mind, but only because my lappy docks into a proper 24inch screen - if I'm doing some coding or other real work.

The lappy has a proper sized screen - 12inch as that makes it actually portable...

Why on earth would I need an ipad when a proper sized lappy does the same job, only better?
