dropping 1.8 m onto a plate of steel

dropping 0.6 m onto a piece of gravel - display down - will do horrible things to that IP68 rating.

One of the major uses I have for my work phone - actually work related, rather than carrying my music collection, is taking pictures of things, Things that need to be fixed before we can start work, things that need to be fixed because we have worked on them, things that have been fixed and are now no longer our problem.. and things which are too complicated to describe or remember correctly. Using the phone to talk to people is way down on its list of uses.

Introduction to Linux for Windows refugees

When I couldnt put up with the behaviour of Microsoft any longer, Cinnamon was suggested as the most 'windows like' environment available.

As such it acts as an intro to Linux environments for windows expats, a reasonably familiar and comforting front end, over the linux experience of trying to get stuff to actually work.

Once I was happy enough with Cinnamon I tried some other Linux distros, but it is still useful as a near-windows machine.

SanDisk's iXpand Wireless Charger is the unholy lovechild of a Qi mat and a flash drive

the Jim bloke

Does the wireless charging work through a protective phone case?

Back when I was using Samsungs, I noticed the wireless charging would not work (despite some initial flickers on the LEDs..) while the phone was in its case.

Since the case was prolonging the life of a substantial investment, and the charger was a novelty gimmick, the charger found a new home in the bottom of a drawer.

These days, I dont buy flagship phones, dont have to worry about wireless charging, but still make sure my phone has a case.

open pit gold mines are economical at grades down to maybe 2 parts per million (2 g/tonne) - possibly lower depending on your waste/ore ratio, chemistry and other costs..

There was a profitable operation at one of West Australias gold mining towns that was re-treating tailings from the gold rush era - when their metallurgy wasnt as good, so lower recovery/more loss - and I think they were working at around 0.3 or 0.2 g/tonne. Basically all the hard work had been done so they were just hosing the sludge into a treatment tank.
