Firstly - you tell your drone people you have anti-drone equipment active, and your anti-drone guys that you have drone operations on, If you arent communicating, you arent an army, you are just a mob.

Drone guys avoid harrassing your own troops, anti-drone guys dont fire on targets without reasonable suspicion - Both should escalate any sightings up the chain of command.

Sure there are media organisations that dont let reality interfere with a desired narrative ... here in Oz the one I see is Sky, but the difference is we have access to alternatives.

If you are willing to stick your head outside of your echo chamber, you can see different interpretations of the 'facts', or information that is ignored or suppressed by people promoting a particular agenda.

Get your news from multiple sources - not just different outlets of the same source - apply rational discrimination and judgement (previously trading under the name of 'common sense').

The world has recently seen the rise of various populist sociopaths who can freely tell people whatever they want to hear while dismantling or discrediting any checks on their power.

Honestly, you cant keep stuff forever, so after a bunch of half-lifes, and suitably diluted, and monitored, dispersal is an effective tool for harm mitigation.

Just think of poor Endor and all the shit left in orbit after the Rebel Alliance blew up the second Death Star....

3 things.

1) The battle fleets were not in stable orbits, being engaged in powered manoeuvring.

2) The inhabited point of interest is actually one of the moons of the Endor gas gaint, which will help clean up any loose space-going trash and make it very unlikely for stable orbits to develop

3) The inhabited moon has an atmosphere, which both acts to de-orbit nearby small items, and protect the surface and anyone living there.

and finally and most importantly.

Science does not apply to Star Wars. Its Space Opera, not science fiction.
