'Alien' lifeform wakened from 120,000 year Arctic slumber

Can I just point out...

That any scientist called Dr. Jenny Loveland-Curtz, while likely to be beautiful and brilliant, will not be able to defeat the earth-threatening blob on her own but will need some kind of low-brow, no-respect-for-authority loose cannon to get the job done.

On the upside, she'll probably survive and will get a new boyfriend out of it.

@Greg

Similar situation here, we've bought thinkpads for years, and I bought myself a 3000 series N500 in the January sales.

Times are changing though. The last two R400s we bought have had serious issues with them, and my own N500 has been with them for 6 weeks now, due to random power failures whether it's on battery or not, and even when it's plugged in with no battery attached. I've just been told that it's going to be shipped to another country for further testing.

Compared to the Sony Vaio SR series we've been getting in, they have become extremely unreliable. I might have to find a new favourite brand.

Mandriva's Linux on a stick will wow all the ladies this Summer

@Kevin Whitefoot

Much as I love Puppy Linux, the dangers inherent in running a full desktop as root (as Puppy Linux does) prevent me from using it and recommending it to others. I know the arguments for it in the case of Puppy - not meant to be a full time installatoin, only for quick fixes or for access to utilities on the go, etc. but I'd still consider it as irresponsible as, say, running xp without antivirus or a firewall. Securing computers is all about minimizing the odds of compromise. To simply disregard one of the biggest security benefits of using Linux for the sake of convenience is reckless.

Mandriva have shown that a robust multi-user environment with good hardware support and privilege separation is possible in a portable form. I can't see how the compromise is justifiable.
