Useful good apps

I really like the I integration people provided on Windows phone. But it was conceptually different that I can imagine some would have difficulties to understand. And then there was the total lack of official banking and public transport apps. And it became hard to justify using it. And I haven't even talked value things like Apple Pay on the underground and uber etc.

I much preferred the UI, also liked iCloud support, well caldav and cardav, out of the box. But the lack of good useful apps made me stop using my Nokia 930.

Cobol 74 qualified

I have a qualification in Cobol 74 :) For the right fee I'm happy to help out....

Dumped it

Six years ago. I haven't had that rubbish on my machines since six years ago. Never liked websites made with it. Apple were right not including it on the iPad/iPhone. Six years on people finally start getting it.

Strippers?

I can't believe some of the comments. Why do these dancers keep being referred to or linked to as strippers? That seems rather disrespectful to what they do, and I'm sure they'd have a very different view on their job.

I can't believe the political correctness gone made and how these dancers get labelled. They wear more clothes than you see on a typical night out in a British Northern Town on a Friday or Saturday night.

I guess some people just aren't happy unless they are offended.

Since when are they running the 2.0TDI engine? Or are now all of a sudden also petrol engines affected?

Rookworst

Rookworst is good, HEMA at Victoria station in London sells it as well. In the UK a Matteson classic sausage comes close but not quite there.

For me it has to be a rookworstje with the Hutspot, but a nice beef sausage with a stamp pot like Boerenkool.

Neither are post pub nosh, to me they are pre pub nosh as they provide an excellent base. Post pub nosh has to be trying to eat/empty a whole row at Febo before they can fill it up. Or een broodje Shoarma. Please don't even begin to compare it to the disgusting kebabs in the UK, this includes proper meat not just processed and formed rubbish offcuts.

A missed opportunity

such a shame this doesn't run full OS X. Without that I just can't take the Pro element seriously.

I like this form factor on the move, so much so that since getting my Surface Pro I haven't touched my MacBook Air. However for it to be Pro I'd like to run full applications and plug it into a dock when at home or the office and get the full desktop and full application experience. For the money and the size of the device that shouldn't have been too hard I would have thought.

In the mean time I will remain with my Surface Pro 3.

What about a work around?

I've only got 384 apps so can't test it, but a habit I've got left over from when OS X was running on my main machine was launching with spotlight. Under Windows 8.1 I don't the same thing, and now under Windows 10 this is improved even more...

Just press the Windows key and start typing the name of the app. Works super quick for me and should get anyone going until a patch is released.

Needs optimisation

when my 6+ screen broke I required a phone asap. Got a Lumia 930 delivered next day. I liked it so much that I didn't get my iPhone fixed for 3 months. However I did this week as I just got sick and tired of the just barely one day battery life.

The apps are absolutely fine, windows phone got everything it requires. The os I like. However hardware wise and battery optimisation just isn't good enough. It is just like my android (including nexus) experiences, looks pretty but basics just aren't stable enough.

iOS is very boring looking, the life tile concept is great. But all is pointless when there is no juice left to check email, send a text or make a phone call.

User error

In my opinion part of this is user error. There is nothing stopping anyone from disabling iMessage, or just disable it for your phone number and leave the email addresses attached to it.

I'm not quite sure how Apple technically should automatically and magically notice this.

I've switched three times (and gone back again) and never lost anything. The only times that I noticed I didn't get anything was when other users were actually messaging my iMessage linked email address instead of my phone number.

Granted the new website makes it easier to deregister for when you no longer have your iPhone, but lock-in it hardly was...

How it works

whilst I agree this shouldn't be a surprise, I also think it should be switched off by default and make it crystal clear what will happen when you switch it on.

I think it is the practise of having it enabled by default that is not great. Really shouldn't happen in 2014, especially not when you upgrade and this already have saved application states.

not all Apple users are bend. My six inches are absolutely fine and straight.

Everything is big

yes very big and notable the the register app. Come on update your app, support the new resolutions such that it will be glorious just like the native apps.

It is £79 standard procedure to have your iPad battery replaced.

I've looked for my nexus 7 2013 and galaxy tab 10. Other than some DIY movies to crack open the device and still spend £40 at least on a third party battery, and requiring special tools that most won't have laying around. I see very little direct manufacturer info when I google on how to get them to do it.

Hmm I quite like the open and upfront apple approach for this. And I don't have to damage my device.

I love dab

Have been using dab for years. Both our cars (one a Toyota the other a Mercedes) have it build in a standard. And the three radios in our house are dab as well.

Living in the country side we keep loosing stations on fm whilst with dab it can stay tuned in.

Sounds pretty good as well to my ears without any of the interference on fm.

I quite like it...

I look at it like this....I like docking stations for my laptop, they cost money too. As such just having to plugin one cable and having everything else connected is pretty good and much more desirable than all individual connections to a laptop...

Sure a lot of money, but so are decent docking stations...

Blackberry has played this stupid game and the update seems to be depended on your carrier issuing it. Why, why, why....I bet it will be several months wait if not years...

I can't receive any of the networks where I live...The suresignal is the reason I've been staying with Vodafone and most of our neighbours are with vodafone as well. Absolutely brilliant solution for rural areas.

No more stopping at the beginning of our lane to forward my mobile to the land line, or walking to the edge of our land where if I lean across the stream I might just get a connection....

It is briliant...

it is just plain and simple a case of that they realised they were pushing their luck....But ofcourse that doesn't fit in with the prominent anti Apple brigade who comment based upon the eq of a 5 year old opposed to facts on these comment pages...

I had none of these issues during the beta period since early July...I must admit I hardly use satellite imagery but I did check my own house which before this week was clear and now it isn't...

I think something else is going on rather than fundamentally daft maps as it has been fine...

Interesting

So these are essential app? Which make it look like a tablet instead of a phone? Wtf? Install a useable keyboard opposed having a good one in the first place? Wtf? Make it look like iBooks with a blatantly obvious knockoff? Wtf? Install a file explorer to clear the junk? Wtf? That is so last century to do that manually.

Damn and I was expecting to see some killer apps in there. Where are they?

Ps. What about the iOS killer feature flash? Surely that was the reason iOS never takes off, so why isn't that in the list? Then again still just software to make it useable opposed to great apps.

Loving the iCloud tabs

I've been using the iCloud tabs now for just over a week and got to say I like it a lot. It may depend on ones habits, but mine are to constantly hop between devices (desktop, laptop, tablet, phone) and being able to continue where I left of on another device is brilliant...

The last battery replacement ...

I performed was on a 5 year old Macbook with serviceable battery exchange...I ordered one from Amazon, it arrived the next day...And guess where the old one ended up bad boy I am...Yes in my bin...

A non-user serviceable item can be guaranteed to be recycled by the service provider, I would have thought that is much more eco friendly.

All this talk about the costs is just noise, if you don't like it vote with your feet and don't buy it...

which has the dongle in the thunderbolt monitor pass through port, one cable to connect and I've got power, external display, firewire, usb, ethernet, external direct attached storage etc...

If I really really need a DVD Player I just remotely connect to one on the desktop macs or use an external blu ray writer...

4K Displays

Will this be the introduction of 4K displays at an 'affordable' consumer price level? It would be great if they were able to pickup the proper Kuro patents and able to move it on and implement it. But then again if that is true it would be at enthousiast prices :)

Whilst Panasonic, and Samsung produce decent enough sets...Since Pioneer has left that market there is something excellent missing...
