Re: Being logical and reasonable is no guarantee of being right

And that's why today's standard for truth isn't logic. It's evidence based on scientific experiments.

This is orthogonal to the use of logic.

The world is full of examples, where people rationalize anything they want to do. Even Hitler rationalized his atrocities and probably seemed reasonable to his people at the time.

Had he kept low-key and laid off the Jew obsession, he would be regarded as one of those European socialist hardcore dictators, nothing to get upset about.

probably seemed reasonable to his people at the time

So its basically threading in disguise.

No, not really.

Premises are Good Old Stuff: Promises.

I really need to check out OCaml a bit more. And for the browser, elm. Now there's a beauty. So much to do, not a minute to spare to dive into the JavaScript fester-dumpster.

And it's started to make its way on to servers with things like Node

Until something else comes along to keep the hyperactive scriptlers with learning challenges busy and the managers on "muh scale-out, scale-up asynchronous web-scale" hype-drenaline.

Meanwhile, normal people will do stuff that actually works.

Using threads, for one.

Pew Pew Pew!

Of much interest, and only two years ago:

The Particle That Broke a Cosmic Speed Limit: Physicists are beginning to unravel the mysteries of ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays, particles accelerated by the most powerful forces in the universe.

Only recently, with the discovery of a cosmic ray “hotspot” in the sky, the detection of related high-energy cosmic particles, and a better understanding of physics at more familiar energies, have researchers secured the first footholds in the quest to understand ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays. “We’re learning things very rapidly,” said Tim Linden, a theoretical astrophysicist at the University of Chicago.

...

Thomson has his money on threads of galaxies and dark matter called “filaments” that are draped throughout the cosmos and which, at hundreds of millions of light-years long, are among the largest structures in existence. There’s a filament in the direction of the hotspot. “It’s probably something in the filament,” Thomson said. In any case, he added, “we have an idea now of interesting places to look. And all we need to do is collect more data.”

It's all about greed. Do anything. Kiss anything. Debase yourself anyway. To rake it in.

So, that's the CrowdStrike brought in by the DNC to emit unverifiable proof of Russian Hacking of the DNC servers around July 5, which was then "made plausible" by someone calling himself Guccifer 2.0 emitting russiana-tainted word-docs as marker material? Then it turns that it got all hoovered up via USB 2,0 device...

Interesting

One reasonable objection to these findings is that Crowdstrike’s excellent cyber protection system, Falcon, was in place prior to July 05, and, therefore, a hack could not have occurred on this date. The locale of the 5th event is in question, whether on a DNC server or later on a copy previously made. True, the action could have been on an earlier copy, in which case Falcon is irrelevant. However, were the action to have occurred on a DNC server then questions arise on the protection granularity decision making criteria of Falcon. For instance, would Falcon stop a DNC user with privileged access, e.g., System Programmer or even a regular authorized user, from copying/downloading something? Here, the conclusion is that it was a local copy, so this question is relevant.

Re: Speed kills

You are very wrong. This has nothing to do with agile, CI or devops, which are all Good Things development-wise because most developers can't design or find their own arse in the code they produce (I have seen nominal "experts" at work ... hahahah!).

No, this is a question of allocating enough horsepower to maintenance, patrolling and defense-in-depth.

Its' the delusion of the "the system is stable and in production, we won't touch it, DISPAND THE TEAM". Which is is the anithesis of agile, CI or devops.
