Re: Yes, but ...

Only in a legal framework that is paralyzed by the threat of "antitrust" lawsuits could this be in any way acceptable:

They're actually not allowed to talk to each other.

It's all completely schizophrenic. Springboards for exploitative practices are erected under the name of stopping exploitative practices. It's almost as if there was lobbying by a large pack of wolves, flimlamming the interventionistic do-gooders. Then band-aids like "consumer protection laws" are put onto festering wounds. Which are then made harmless by lawfare.

"On a philosophical point, that's why society invented the notion of consumer protection law."

And then society invented lawfare to shut up bad press as a counterpoint.

Re: Not in Europe

Please stop pushing white guilt.

"Thanksgiving" has nothing to do with "subjugation of anything". It commemorates the amazing finding that settlers in a command and control "equal sharing" economy nearly croak because everyone is waiting for everyone else to do the work, while giving the settlers the permission to actually sell what they produce puts corn on the table (The stuck-up radicals of Plymouth colony managed to go "somewhat free market" while Jamestown didn't get the message and continued to wallow in destitution and Chavez-style decrepitude).

It also used to be a celebration followed at the discretion of the various states until Lincoln decided to make it another matter of Big State to enliven the civil war wreckage with a bit of Joyful Führermessage.

Re: @ Zmodem

> heliostationary polar orbit above the sun.

Such an orbit does not exist and the only one to go "Sun poles" was Ulysses and that took a lot of slingshotting and was over fast.

At The Mission, we read:

STEREO (Solar TErrestrial RElations Observatory) is the third mission in NASA's Solar Terrestrial Probes program (STP). The mission, launched in October 2006, has provided a unique and revolutionary view of the Sun-Earth System. The two nearly identical observatories - one ahead of Earth in its orbit, the other trailing behind - have traced the flow of energy and matter from the Sun to Earth. STEREO has revealed the 3D structure of coronal mass ejections; violent eruptions of matter from the sun that can disrupt satellites and power grids, and help us understand why they happen. STEREO is a key addition to the fleet of space weather detection satellites by providing more accurate alerts for the arrival time of Earth-directed solar ejections with its unique side-viewing perspective.

So we have two sats, at 1 AU (i.e. Earth) orbit, and I would bet at the Lagrange Points.

The Jimbo's Horde page has a nice explanation, which leads to this picture of the STEREO's pair current location. So not at the Lagrange points.

To think that the budget for this probably had to be horse-traded over.
