Yep, generally used filesystems in 2014 are STILL just databases with no transaction support. This is bad.

Unfortunately it's down to the fact the that stuff seen by programs has no type and an array of typeless strings of which some may be options, some may be concatenated options, some may be stuff expanded by the shell (and this in a frankly inconsistent manner revealed whenever hacking bash), some may be badly quoted strings with spaces ... this is REALLY HARD TO HANDLE CORRECTLY.
