Google, Facebook, Amazon et al look on nervously as Biden bumps anti-Big Tech warriors into key posts

Khaptain Silver badge

Re: Godspeed

Strangely enough I think that they will be successful. Big Tech is a threat to the government, Trump blew the first whistle and then got blown away. Biden is merely carrying on the same work but he will probably succeed because whoever is pulling his strings, I believe, is more powerful than the Orange One.

The media were used to win the election, now that it's won they have lost a lot of their bargaining power. Big Tech however are a different kind of animal, they are wild and unpredictable, they can be controlled in a different manner...

Re: Reflection for the morning

Just listened to the Cloned Rappers : It appears to be a song criticizing the music industry for producing generic artists, hence the notion of "cloning". Hard to see what wrong with that. ( I don't care much for the music or the song)

I didn't know the "Coronavirus" song either, so I checked it out. ( Don't care for this one either)

This song was published around march 2020, so everything he said was pretty much fact at that time. Trump and his team handled things pretty damned poorly, so saying that the Government lied wasn't a falsehood. Unless of course you care to share another version of events.

Once again let's put things into context...

If you want to knock someone down at least have some convincing arguments.

I don't know what to think about this virus

It started in China, now everybody in America is hidin'

There's no groceries, 'cause people start to panic and buy it

The shelter empty, the ones who plenty, already stockpiling

Y'all making memes, think it's funny?

Wait a week 'til the riots

Wait a month 'til the only way to eat is be violent

It's not the sickness that's scary, it's all the people who're violent

The government's lyin', they're trying to keep us calm through the sirens

We know it's for real

And now all the pharmaceutical giants don't have the cure that they can sell you

So now everyone's dying

There's no vaccines and medication made that can fight it

I guess it's time to pray to God, we can't rely on the science

Re: Reflection for the morning

Rather than taking single lines out of his songs, at least have the honesty to bring the whole song lyrics into view in order that the entire context can be understood.

"I think Black Lives Matter was the stupidest name, when the system screwing everyone exactly the same"

The idea behind this line relates to the fact that by employing the word "Black" , it actually created further division amongst the population. The Government used BLM as a political wrench, notice how we don't hear about them anymore now that the elections are finished.

If you want to better understand Tom Macdonald you should watch some of the reaction videos in order to understand how some of the Black community feel about it. You would be surprised to see how many actually appreciate those lines, they took the time to understand what was being said.

I think it's crazy how these people screaming "facts" but they fake woke

Hate their neighbor 'cause he wears a mask or he stays home

Has a daughter but his favorite artist said he slays hoes

Picks her up from school, music slaps on the way home

Censorship's an issue 'cause they choose what they erase

There's a difference between hate speech and speech that you hate

I think Black Lives Matter was the stupidest name

When the system's screwing everyone exactly the same

I just wanna spend Thanksgiving Day with food and my family

Without being accused of celebrating native casualties

We got so divided as black and white and political

Republicans are bigots, libtards if you're liberal

There's riots in our streets and it's just getting worse

Y'all screaming defund the police, y'all are genius for sure

Re: Cancel Culture Feedback

This came straight from the Washington Times ( I don't know if it's a partisan paper or not)

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2021/feb/26/loudoun-county-schools-cancel-dr-seuss-racial-unde/

"Last year, Burbank Unified School District in California banned five classic novels from being taught in their curriculum: Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird,” Mark Twain’s “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men,” Theodore Taylor’s “The Cay” and Mildred D. Taylor’s Newbery Medal-winning young-adult classic “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.”"

Do you also consider the above books as "rubbish" or "bad sellers" that need to be thrown out in order to make space ?

Khaptain Silver badge

Cancel Culture Feedback

This is why the cancel Culture is so damned dangerous, when they are cancelling something you don't like then it's fine but when it touches you directly it's a whole other story.

Amazon have the power and the money to escape from this, this time. But now the guns are pointing at them and eventually someone will find a silly little thing like this again and it will be all guns blazing against them, with absolutely no recourse possible... Its a terrible thing, fuelled by the social media platforms themselves.

Some people are now just starting to realise how fragile all of us are with this stupid craze. Its obvious that the snake will eventually bite it's own tail but the damage in the meantime will be colossal.

It's a craze perpetuated by bored keyboard warriors that prefer destruction to construction. They don't really care who falls, all that it is important is that their target falls, and then they can give themselves a pat on the back with the righteous stick. It's very ephemeral, childish and will establish a very unstable base for these future adults upon which to build their lives.

"The right to platform only those people you agree with is a free speech right."

That's closer to Propoganda platform than a Free Speech platform.

"If nobody is giving someone a voice, perhaps their voice isn't worth the time of day or is objectionable?"

That's for for the audience to decide not the platform..

If the major platforms simply become Echo Chambers then what purpose do they serve other than as means for the owner to distribute the self interests or idealogies of whoever provides the finance. Fundemantally the opposite of what Free Speech should have to offer ?

Khaptain Silver badge

Re: Who's the audience?

No "Cancel culture" is a bullying tactic that is used in order to ensure that other points of view are not heard.

Refusing to debate, is a refusal to evolve.. It's an attempt to force ones own ideologies on to another, it's got nothing to do with disagreeement..

Khaptain Silver badge

Re: Who's the audience?

Parler made it's name due to someone desperately requiring an alternative to Twitter/FB and the Cancel Culture.

Unfortunately for them Amazon etc decided it was against their money maing policies to host them. So they got cancelled... Ironic that that what what Parler were fighting against...

The Twitterati will continue as usual but I get the impression that there is now a growing push against the Cancel Culture, I think intelligent people are waking up and starting to reject the tiny minority who use very loud bullying tactics. Equilibrium is slowly being restored (at least in the UK and a little bit in the US )...

Again this will go against Parler as it's raison d'etre is becoming a little bit less usefull...

Anyway, I am glad that they are back, simply for the reason that it's important for all that alternative solutions do indeed exist..

Twitter/FB win whichever way the pendulum swings...

Ok so you don't like Trump. you have made that clear but Trump was not alone in the affair and I am sure that your current security advisors still have a lot to say, The military, the CIA, NSA are still the same group of people today.. A couple of heads might change but their fear of China remains, it's understandable.

Biden has presumed financial ties with China, and that is something that the American people really need to consider in the coming years... The American people really need to start to think about what Biden is going to do.... Just like Chess every move has a consequence and for the moment Biden doesn't seem to be a strategist.. Undoing what Trump did is not a strategy, it's just pandering to the masses.

Let's see how Biden negotiates with China about reducing carbon emissions, or about the Uigygurs, or human rights, or censorship.. Let's see if he is capable if being a true statesman....

The Huawei affair has it's importance... Biden can't blame Trump for his next moves, so he has to choose them very, very carefully...
