A slight preference for the Pouilly Fumé though...

Re: On the plus side, instant familiarity

"...except that biological concepts of "race" have been obsolete for 150 years :)"

So you would also consider that races exists such as "European", "American", "Russian"..... I think not...

Grouping the entire Chinese population into one race, 1 Billion people spread over a very very large area.......

If we no longer consider Biological concepts as being part of what defines a race then the concept of race has no value. Unless of course your definition of race is the one that the "Media" loves to use when calling someone racist.. ie it can mean anything that anyone wants it to mean depending on the situation.. ie Race become a variable ......

Re: On the plus side, instant familiarity

Xenophobic maybe but certainly not racist...

AI is only in it's birth, it has the entire lifespan of humankind waiting to nurture it... and it will eventually be capable of making a decision, equal to that of any meatbag..

We are the creaters of AI, but unfortunately it is likely to pass us by. When I considers that the best chance of human survival it to destroy 98% of the population because statistically that it was we programmed it to do, then, and maybe then, we might begin to understand just how relevant we truly are...

Never underestimate the lengths to which people will go to when they have something to gain !!

And never forget that those doing the nasty might actually be on the "good" side of the law....... NSA, Mossad, FSK, MI6 etc etc I can easilly imagine entering an American Airport and your computer being analysed by some AI system that determines on it's own whether or not you have "terrorist" tendancies.... and that that same machine leaves some nasty malware ( virus) behind after it has calculated that your AntiVirus solution is not updated regularly and that you credit card details show no subscriptions to similar services.

AI vs Greed

The next logicial stage is that those greedy bastard Malware creators will use AI to their own advantage..

Cynical, who, me, definately..... The "dark force" has the same availibility to AI tools as everyone else , why would they not use them ! There is so much money to be made that it is impossible for them to resist... and some back-handers to the legal companies will ensure the continuing availibility .

Marine Le Pen is definately not her father. Some of her speeches are actually well thought out and interesting.. she is no worse than Sarko....but she is definately not a world class politician, nor is she a Billionaire, so she won't be able to pull of any of Trumps stunts.

I would probably prefer a Marine Le Pen to a Hilary Clinton, Hilary is far more dangerous character...

I doubt that MLP will get through though, it's far more likley to be Valls, Macron or Fillon. Although Polls have no real standing the Wikipedia poll is interesting and probably close to the truth..

Re: I'd love to see a top 20...

2016 was my biggest year ever for downvotes, a few thousand,, I even lost my Silver Badge... And unlike Jake etc I don't intentionally troll....

It just appears that people have different points of view, of which many seem to be more about " a false sense of poltical correctness" or ideals that stream from the typical mass concensus rather than from personal convinction.

It's interesting to see how the Up/Down votes have changed the forum.. I get a feeling that far too many posts are just made to intentionally gain Upvotes rather than for adding anything that actually furthers discussion..

Nowadays, I just read the main article and maybe the first couple of posts before the flamewars start.

I don't have an FB account so it is not easy to imagine what these people will actually be employed to do. The fact that 500 new jobs being created is excellent, I just hope that their jobs involve more than creating new posts.

Don't forget the Calories

Let's not forget that these boots would probably be heavier than normal boots and that would require the consumption of more calories..

These calories would also require energy to be used for them to be produced. a Hamburger for example would require lot's of energy before it went into said Pedestrian-Energy-Makers mouth.

If we reduce the amount of energy created by the amount of energy required to make these calories we would probably achieve a negative creation rate..

Ok less bloat, but that can be achieved on many distros.

I am in the same boat, I read them many years ago and they were very well written and very logicial.. MS states that they have spent a fortune studying UIs and I agree that they know their stuff...

UIs are very important for the end user, and this is one point which I have never liked in Linux, the default user UIs are/can be different between distros and this can become extremely frustrating. Which results in returning so often to the cli.

Windows on the other hand provides a great UI, and what with the CLI getting a bit better, it's becoming a very useful and powerful UI...

Khaptain Silver badge

The Perfect Pair

Well, as much as I can understand the theory, I have a hard time imagining working as a pair.

Why, because I am not compatible ( notice how I didn't say that they weren't, I assume my statement).

As much as I don't want to work with someone I else I do appreciate being able to discuss/talk with someone else when the occasion arises.. which I find very useful.

As programmers we are often in "our own little world" and to be perfectly honest, that's where I like to be, in my own personal bubble, as it helps me concentrate and improves my conception of the problem at hand..

On top of the that, I talk too much.. which would simply disturb the "other" one...

Horses for courses, if some people produce better code that way, then why not, but I do not believe that is the best solution for all.
