China showing signs of brewing IPv6 eruption

Khaptain Silver badge

Privacy anyone?

There is also another very important function , at least for the party leaders, in using status IP addresses and it has nothing to do with IT.

We will eventually also move to Ipv6 I just don't know when, its been in the pipeline for quite some time already.... Its like a silver bullet thats actually made of jigsaw pieces, you want to be the one that puts in the last piece but don't want to deal with the preparation...

Failed insurrection aside, Biden is going to be president in two weeks. What does it mean for tech policy?

Khaptain Silver badge

Re: Rent a mob

I seriously hope that you don't think that the change of president will actualy make any difference..

People would like to believe that Biden will be different but at the end of the day the POTUS is just a puppet for big business lobbyists.. Biden won't do any better than Trump, his track record speaks for itself.

Well done Danny , that had me chuckling this morning.

"The fact that there is a certain number of premises which are not ready to connect is not of itself evidence that the network cannot be treated as ‘built and fully operational’.”

So something that's not true can be true ? Politicians apparently live with a different set of logic rules than the rest of humanity.

The online world appears to have become a very risky business where the slightest faux pas can lead to your untimely demise and this is where FB and Twitter thrive... They make money whilst encouraging nastiness, it's basically the Roman Arena scenario, the throwing of a miserable soul into the lion's den whilst the public applaud... The power of the "Like " button, again, just like the Arena spectators... Jules Caesars power of the thumb...

These kinds of social media have become extremely negative... they no longer provide a service, they appear to evolved into a public means of destruction..

Re: El Reg becoming political now ?

"I hate to believe anything as ridiculous as Trump could happen in a educated country."

You do realise that the education system has been "systemically" indoctrinating the children and college students for the past 20 or so years..

So the problem is not Trump but the American System that has ignored what it going on in their own schools... Obama, Bush and Clinton are far more to blame than anyone else, there were presiding when this crap started....

Khaptain Silver badge

Re: El Reg becoming political now ?

It's a three year old story that involves nothing but politics. This is just another Orange Man Bad jibe which is really boring on an IT site.

I don't like Donald Trump , nor do I like Joe Biden and I believe that neither will do any good for the US.

But what I dislike more than both of them though is the left swinging media which has completely lost it's objectivity.. The MSM has simply become a propaganda machine for whoever pulls the strings. I was kinda hoping that El Reg would remain independent....

The Hunter Biden macbook story would have been far more interesting, there was at least a modicum of IT involved.

Khaptain Silver badge

El Reg becoming political now ?

I understand that Californians have a strong preference for lefty politics but do we honestly need to hear that on El Reg, this article just stinks of pre-election bias.

What's next, Critical Race Theory in between articles on how to prepare GPOs via Powershell.

Can't quite remember the name of the song stuck in your head? Hum it and our AI will take a guess, says Google

Khaptain Silver badge

Re: Hum it and our AI will take a guess, says Google

Behind the rant there is always the serious question as to "why" and for what purpose Google really built this app..

Not remembering a song and asking your friends to help whilst you hum along is actually quite a fun thing to do as it involves some of that old-fashioned "real world human interaction"...

Google is not known for doing things without a reason, so I would presume that they are doing it order to make a guess at what a muffled conversation might actually contain.. Muffled as in : Listening to the "hum" of a conversation in another room, listening to another conversation in a crowd which is also more of a "hum" rather than actual words etc etc etc

Re: Perfectly factual advertisement, what's the fuss?

"It's not an art form I follow but I wouldn't be surprised to discover that ballet also had intellectual demands."

Everything that we do has intellectuals demands but we tend to focus on that which we favour as it is generally beneficial to the desired result.

Undoubtedly I could learn to be graceful and have the strength and dedication of a ballet dancer but it is not one of my desires therefore I would create a negative impact on my eventual capacity.

You have to want to be a ballet dancer or a C++ developer. You don't normally simply enter into either profession haphazardly ( well usually not). They both require dedication but in general that dedication is by choice...

Khaptain Silver badge

Re: Perfectly factual advertisement, what's the fuss?

Interesting find ...

After quickly reading her biography on Wikipedia, it appears as though Miss Hughes was quite the intellectual and as such probably more destined to be a codebreaker rather than a Ballet dancer...

Khaptain Silver badge

Re: Those raising issue at the outrage.

"You sound outraged.."

Outraged , no. I am just depressed at the fact that "Social media" has now managed to create the largest divide that any modern civilization has ever seen. Things were getting better and better until social media ramped up....

Division is on the increase and it's not likely to stop. Twitterati/FaceBook SJWs and Wokesters becoming smugger and prouder of their destruction. They haven't yet understood that they are making things worse for themselves and more importantly for those that they pretend to protect..

Khaptain Silver badge

Re: Those raising issue at the outrage.

The only thing outrageous in this advert is the lengths to which the SJW's/Woke crowd will go to create another scandal...

The often forget that people actually do have to work to get things done whilst they go on about the latest trend in outrageousness.

They truly are a bunch of tedious, spoilt children..

You can be whatever you want

This fits right in with the ideology that you can be whatever you want regardless of your skill or capacity... What a bunch of crap....

IT is probably the worst choice of career for this kind of publicity.. Even those that have the desire, capacity and knowledge can find infosec a deeply challenging area. It's complex, requires years of experience, frustration and endless days and nights of hair pulling and that's for those that are dedicated.....

I would challenge the authors of the publicity to actually spend a day with an IT Pro in order that they begin to understand some of the "subtleties" of what being in IT actually involves.. Ballet dancers are not likely to either want or desire to push themselves into IT...

I would probably also challenge the authors to day spend a day as a Ballerina....

Re: IR cameras

"A computer vision system can use any kind of light. Infrared light doesn't show melanin"

Algorithm's do not see melanin regardless of the light that is being used..... They see varying values which are can be analysed in order to determine features and attributes. If the values are confused, inconsistent or poorly defined then the algorithm will have great difficulty in making a determination..

The guy in the image also has a beard which adds difficulty as it is almost impossible to define the structure or outline of the face due to it being partly hidden....

I am not defending anyone other than the programmers who have an extremely, extremely difficult problem to resolve.

Re: Why use the word racist.

@katrinab is using the Flamebait icon so I would presume that the comment is actually stabbing at the ridiculous usage of the word "rascist" which has completely lost it's original meaning.

It's as though is has become counterproductive as it no longer defines a definitive situation, and with no definitive situation we can longer take any positive action as we no longer no what we are trying to resolve.

It now appears to having become defined as "someone that does not does not agree with my ideology, regardless of how ridiculous the concepts of my ideology".. and I do not see how that can help those that actually suffer from racism as it was previously defined.

Khaptain Silver badge

Why use the word racist.

This is an algorithm that has not yet been perfected, how can this person call it racist when it knows nothing about people or colour? For a university student that does not seem like a very intelligent approach, quite the opposite really.

So you believe that a socialist/Marxist system would improve things how ? If I have to choose between the lesser of 2 evils then Trump wins.... I really don't like Donald Trump but compared to what the world has seen within the Socialist regimes he is a far better choice than the Bidens or the Maduros.

Biden, as most people have now seen, is a puppet who strings are tweaked by the likes of Jeff Bezos, George Soros and Ted Turner. The BLM/Antifa movements think that they will own Biden, wrong, for they themselves are merely puppets for the aforementioned big players.
