Germans resist Street View invasion of privacy

Peter Thomas

So what the majority of commenters here want...

...is new laws everywhere to prevent ALL OF US from taking a photo outside.

Yes, it should be illegal for any tourist to take holiday snaps, TV camera crews shall not report news, protestors cannot film violent police officers, etc.

The only place you should be allowed to take photos is inside your own home. Don't take your camera outside ever, or you should be jailed. If you do dare to take photos in a public place, then you are "Orwellian", you are a "big evil corporation", you are "the government". You couldn't possibly be doing it for any other purpose.

That's what you're telling me, it seems. I've just clarified it for ease of reading. Give yourselves a pat on the back for your display of common sense and logical thinking.

Kettering to London: 18 hours by rail, bus and pack mule

Stop

@M. Poolman

No, Wellingborough to London takes 1 hour minimum - if you're lucky.

It used to take 50 minutes, but that was back in those days before privatisation, when you didn't have to auction your right arm and right leg to get a single ticket, and the trains weren't electric shopping trolleys, but yer proper big beastie InterCity 125s.

Pirate Bay loses trial: defendants face prison time, hefty fines

@Lee Jackson

You're equating stealing with copyright infringement. You're not the only one who does this, but people who do it have no place in any debate on content rights.

Whilst piracy has the potential for lost sales (and also has plenty of positives for content owners), it is certainly not the same as outright theft.

Who thinks the disappearance of The Pirate Bay is going to stop piracy? Did the big labels think that when Napster v1 disappeared? Kazaa? Audiogalaxy? TPB is just one of many places where you can find torrents. There's a certain huge search engine that begins with the letter G that shows up such content if you specify .torrent as the filetype.

Trying to stop file-sharing with a trial like this, is like trying to stop a tsunami with a cocktail umbrella.

I'm a plumber*. Who said you can turn on a tap without my permission, getting water without me seeing a penny? Every time someone has a shower, a bath or washes up, I DESERVE PAYMENT!

If that doesn't sound stupid to you, then I congratulate you for being sincere in your belief, no matter how ridiculous it is.

(Er, I'm not actually a plumber, in the same way the PRS doesn't actually support music.)

The going rate...

Charlie Brooker on Screenwipe said that for the BBC to license a photo for TV usage from big names (the likes of Getty Images and Rex Features), it would cost £250.

Paris, because she'd cost marginally more.

@People own iPods

My iPod has 160GB, far more capacity than your tinny Nokia mobile phone.

MP3 is indeed a great protocol, it's what I use on my iPod, as do many other people

iTunes has NEVER tried to convert my 45GB of MP3s into any other format. It has actually converted the few WMA files I had, into MP3.

Anyone with 1/2 an IT brain would have known this.

@adnim

I never fill in web forms with truthful information either.

Must be off now, gotta pick up my Ferrari from the garage, before jetting off for a six week holiday in the Bahamas.

Mine's the one that matches the flaming underwear.

BT Broadband thinks differently...

From http://www.btbroadbandinformation.com/glossary/faceparty/

"Originally for those in their teens and late twenties, Faceparty is a community networking web site that’s now popular with all ages over 16. You can meet like-minded people and make new friends online."

Paris, because she's the optimum age, and is in no way a bad influence on young impressionable adults.

@Liam

1080i is a picture standard, nothing to do with audio! 1080i is as high as UK broadcast goes, you can't get 1080p TV channels here. What are you complaining about?

The BBC made the choice to avoid HD Doctor Who in order to have more episodes of regular vanilla SD Doctor Who made.

BBC vs ISPs: Bandwidth row escalates as Tiscali wades in

A bit rich?

"A bit rich that a publicly-funded organisation is telling a commercial body how to run its business"...

Yet it's okay that a commercial body can get away with not selling a service as advertised? And expect the publicly-funded organisation to go begging-bowl in hand for more cash?

I leave Tiscali this month. Yayness.
