All these claims are usually true.... As far as the provider is concerned.

Or steg pgp encrypted text into the picture of a kitty and post it on Facebook, Pinterest at al.

It would be an interesting exercise to actually do this to see what happens. One might find out if the NSA/GCHQ spend time and resource running kitty pics through statistical analysis. I would imagine that for known suspects they would run every media file sent/posted to the web through steg detection tools.

Fed-up Colorado man takes 9mm PISTOL to vexing Dell PC

adnim

@ Dazed Re: Come on guys

To be honest Dazed I have been building computers since the early nineties and 9 times out of ten it has been the software. Hardware does fail but that is so, so easy to diagnose. Software making it look like the hardware is faulty is something else entirely. But I agree I have wanted to kill hardware because that is what presents the results of faulty software to my perceptions and as such usually takes the brunt of my anger.

A MILLION Chrome users' data was sent to ONE dodgy IP address

adnim
Unhappy

Unfortunately

most people are not going to run their internet connection through Wireshark or Snort and log/parse the resulting data. I expect everything I run to want to send data to the software provider and yet I don't do this. I would also have to be an accomplished cryptographer to be sure I understood what was being sent much of the time.

There was a time when I had a Honeywall between my LAN and the Internet, the logs made interesting reading, not so much the outgoing but the incoming connections. I expect the outgoing logs would be far more interesting now.

A web browser has to access the Internet a local application doesn't, therefore I have a software firewall that detects egress and I just block every application that seeks to connect to the Internet.

With a web browser it cannot determine a plugin from the parent application, although it does list the IP addresses an allowed application connects to.

It is tedious doing lookups on these addresses though. It might be time to look at Honeywall Roo again and build on what is already there. Would the average consumer care though if presented with a warning telling them that their privates are being exposed? They might just think the benefit of the free application is worth the cost.

Commercial entities are legion for they are many. If you cant read the source code it cannot be trusted to connect to the Internet. It really is that simple.

My fridge

places an order with local supermarket if I run out of milk and my smart door lets in the delivery man droid in to place the milk in said fridge. My smart car lets my smart TV know that I am going to be late home due to traffic conditions so it can record that which I would normally watch and my TV tells my smart beer cooler to wait a while before starting its task to save electricity. The beer cooler notifies the smart cat feeder to feed the cat. The feeder of course chatted with the smart food cupboard to check that there was indeed cat food after first checking with the fridge that there wasn't any left over chicken or fish for the cat.

My smart phone automatically sends a request to a greeting card company, a florist, a chocolatier or toy company dependant on which celebratory anniversary it is. It also intercepts the thank you messages and replies to the recipient that they are welcome and I love them, just in case I remain unaware of the action and embarrass myself by saying was it your birthday/anniversary/ etc.

My smart clothes make their own way to my smart washing machine, just after my smart utility cupboard as informed said washing machine that it has ordered detergent and indeed the detergent has been delivered by the same droid that delivered the milk.... My smart cupboard is smart enough to check with my other smart devices before placing an order.

As for me I never have to worry or think about anything any more. I have so much more free time to search for the latest labour/thought saving device. Perhaps there is an app for that?

Psychopaths are not born, they are created. Every new born is a blank and slate any genetic tendency can be overwritten by nurture. A brain continues to develop outside of the womb and that development can be directed. What you are basically saying is that a value system is not taught. I disagree, children are initially programmed, conditioned, indoctrinated and instilled with values by parents. Eventually peer pressure has a strong influence. By the age of 12 a value system should have been set up by the parents.

As I understand things

The Higgs field cannot be massless because the Higgs has mass, therefore the whole Universe even the quantum vacuum has a mass associated with the Higgs field.

The Higgs boson interacts with matter to give mass to other particles.

The Higgs boson is an excitation in the Higgs field producing a mass of approx 126GeV

Every particle with mass interacts with a Higgs boson of mass 126GeV

So add 126GeV to the mass of every particle in the Universe (most of them are in and around galaxies)

Does this not account for Dark matter, or at least some of the extra mass we cannot detect?

F**kAdblock

seems to require Javascript.

I block Javascript by default and if an unknown site requires Javascript to function I look elsewhere for the information I require. If I find a huge list of scripts from umpteen different domains are required to access site content I never visit that site again.

I did enable Javascript for http://sitexw.fr/fuckadblock/ out of interest and was informed that Adblock was not active, so I enabled session cookies (although in the source code, cookies are not referenced) and my Adblock was still not detected. <shrug>

I really don't care because if ever an advertising network finds a way around adblock, they will certainly find a way into my hosts file.

My Amiga got infected once... that taught me to move the write tab on my floppies, I had do disinfect dozens. It was a lesson well learned and got me into studying viruses. I have never had a virus on a production PC I have owned and my first PC was an Epson PCe. (I have purposely infected many in the course of research)

Of course I could have been and could still be riddled with many undetectable ones all fighting for dominance... I just don't know I am not that smart.
