Daily Stormer booted off internet again, this time by Namecheap

Gordon Pryra

sought a legal perspective...

Which is probably the actual reason. After all, most of the content can easily be argued to be illegal, with few people willing to defend it (few people with a brain or career that is)

These kind of hosting companies really on get away with it on the sufferance of their Governments, go to close to the bone and they may go far enough to force the daily mails of the world to start shouting, which leads to legislation.

I don't know,I may be doing the CEO of this company a disservice, but he doesn't seem to give a rats arse for the content on the other sites that give him money.

Then again, this reads like I am against the service he provides, I am not, and I am fully aware that the West is as highly censored as China in many aspects, its just we don't want to see it.

Cloudflare: We dumped Daily Stormer not because they're Nazis but because they said we love Nazis

Gordon Pryra

Re: @Old Englishman

I think you need to reread his post, he is talking about Cloudfare not the american Nazis.

All we see in the UK of the American Constitution is that it allows twats in stupid hats to wave Swastikas around and get away with it.

Hardly "free speech" more like legally allowed fascism, perpetrated by morons who forgot to take the Nazi idea of "bad guys wear the cool uniforms" and replaced it with the dicks in their pointy hats looking like tools.

Gordon Pryra

As @Adam 52 says, this has probably killed off Cloudflare, or at least seriously harmed their rep with their customers.

I understand why they had to do it, but then again, they always knew what the content was, so to take protection away now is obliviously to save face.

People making money from being "neutral" are often the worst kind of parasite, acting as enablers of the stuff they pretend to not having anything to do with.

The hypocrisy of claiming they protect free speech (for a cost) but then pulling the rug from under the Nazis when things get hot is a bit sad.

Or the reality,

You CANNOT trust any .Gov department or organisation (NHS is a good example) with your data. From staff within the organisations making personal use of the data to it being given out to anyone (people getting databases of gun owners for their own personal use? Handing over medical records to Google?)

How about some more uncomfortable truth, the lack of protection for this data. Contractors walking around with clinical data on USB sticks, laptops not being correctly encrypted (or just not encrypted) to workstations and servers not being patched and running Windows Xp........

On top of that, as was mentioned in the article about mission creep. If the data is there, it WILL be mined and used in ways never thought possible even 5 years ago

For additional mathematical fun, maybe the % of organisations hit by tools created by our "defenders" with servers/workstations NOT patched but where budget had been provided to patch them in the past.

Final question would be how many servers/workstations that have had MULTIPLE budgets to pay for patching have been hit by viruses written by our own governments because they were not patched.....

Virgin users are screwed

Supplying your own router wont make a difference

The issue is the modem in the superhub

So before the interwebs gets to your router it gets slowed down by the system performing the various tasks using software rather than the hardware controls

Virgin don't give a shit because you can either take it or go to the competition. users who realise they are being shafted are a tiny % of their user-base.

The lads from Lagos..

Sadly the average person still has zero idea what is and what isn't "the internet"

The scams are many and followed through relentlessly, even going to the point where people get telephone calls from "bailiffs"

Whats obvious to you is far from obvious to some bricks and mortar company who have their website up to provide confirmation of their location and a little bit of free advertising from the organic listings.

These people are fair game to the sharks.

This company will just be wound up and the directors will walk away with the profits they have already stripped.

Brace yourselves, Virgin Media prices are going up AGAIN, people

Gordon Pryra

Same as all ISPs

OffCom do nothing, they never really have done their job description. Then again, the entire MO of al ISPs is to scam the customer, so OffCom are in a hard place considering ALL the people they are overseeing are scammers.

Things are Ok while they are Ok, but if you have any problems and your only option is to dump them to go elsewhere.

That is the Telco business model, they really don't care about complaints, they expect 50% customer attrition

But they then expect the numbers to be returned from customers leaving their competitors

Re: And this is why Linux will NEVER be a useable desktop OS

Bring back our hobbyist overlords I say (or at least one who understands what a UI should entail)

Gordon Pryra

And this is why Linux will NEVER be a useable desktop OS

Yeah there are bugs, but its how easily the user can get a machine that lets him send an email when he runs into a bug.

Can you imagine an actual user in the real world doing this? or even understanding what this is telling him to do? And this is already sanitized for general consumption.

"If you're affected by this DNS problem, rebuild Systemd without libidn2, stop using Systemd as your resolver if possible, apply this temporary patch – or better yet, wait for libidn2 to be fixed to cope with underscores."

Linux is becoming MORE like a hobbyist OS than ever before

Virgin Media broadband latency headaches still not fixed six months on

Gordon Pryra

Re: Office of Fair trading?

The key phrase here is "standards agreed by contract"

If BT can sell copper and call it fiber and ALL ISPs were able to sell "up to x MB" while giving you a fraction of the amount. Or the famous "fair use policy"

then I am sure that Virgin can give you any old pile of crap and be covered legally.

OffCom on the other hand are supposed to be covering these sort of rouge organisations with an aim to protecting the consumer from bad customer service which they all seem tomake their business model.

Gordon Pryra

Re: Can't say I've seen a problem with my SH3

Which shows you have no idea of what the actual issue is.

When the modem is stressed, control switches from hardware to software.

result is massive swings in latency and disconnection.

Ironic considering that this is on the top of the range router sold to gamers as the best they can get.

Gordon Pryra

Wheres offcom?

Virgin are constantly lying to their customers as a matter of company policy. This is almost beyond doubt.

When their support is spoken to about this issue, and its a BIG issue, we are fobbed off with the normal excuses and attempts to blame the customer.

last week I was told to let them reset my modem and the "PROBLEM WOULD GO AWAY" This was after the "support" remoted onto my machine and looked at my network card settings. Did a visual check of my network adapter which is called "wireless", then told me they had found a problem and fixed it.

No offense, but my actual network card is a wired connection, I renamed the second adapter "Wireless" when I was making a screen shot to explain something else in some documentation. "Wireless" is also a wired NIC

NB : For those without the problem, when the router goes over to software, its not always seamless, and can result in a total disconnect for 30 seconds.

So not only ping rates going through the roof (over 500 in games that bother to count that high) , but total disconnects.

All this from a £150 a month service.

"Respect is a basic human right, and should only be withheld for good reason."

What a crock, 99% of decent god fearing secular people don't really care about religion (after all I don't spend all day thinking about the ginger bread man either)

But when pushed, the biggest issue they will talk about is the lack of respect for all other religions by ALL religions.

Next comes the lack of tolerance of all religions for anyone that has any belief that is slightly different from theirs. How many versions of Christianity are there for example? And how many times has this resulted in abuse of one kind or another?

In 2017 the Church is STILL debating whether "the gays" (tm) and the scary women can play in their gang
