don't bother

get the latest SVN from the chromium developers and build that. It kicks the shit out of googles beta crap (which is a couple of versions behind the developer builds).

I too have had a similar experience. Last time I was made redundant did I sign on? No. I took a job as a bin man at a local shopping center whilst looking for more IT related and engaging work in my spare time. Within a couple of months I found a great job that I've been at ever since.

At least one part of the problem is people who think that certain jobs are beneath them. Their hubris and pride serving only to make them burdens on those of us who actually know the value of independence.

Then there are those who simply don't want to work, the real dole scum. I totally agree with the work gang idea. Give the fuckers a real incentive to find a better occupation. The welfare state is meant to provide a cushion for those in need, not a silver spoon for a bunch of lazy scroungers.

Isn't it reassuring that some jobsworth dickheads, on a power trip, that don't have a fucking clue about the laws they're meant to be enforcing, can arrest you for being a bit bigger than them?

I, for one, am thoroughly satisfied with this form of policing. Really I am, it doesn't make me want to punch the lot of them in their collective faces with an enraged rabid badger at all. Nope, not a jot.

This is just the kind of law enforcement we need. Under-trained, insecure and clearly happy to over step the bounds of their authority, these are the officious retards we want patrolling our streets.

Combat games disrespect war laws, report claims

NB
Coat

oh dear

I, for one, am getting rather sick of this fucktarded assumption that hysteria-mongering dickbags like this always make. That gamers are incapable of differentiating between games and reality. It's moronic and insulting to our intelligence. That they also have the gall to trot out the 'think of the children' line shows just how little they know about gaming and the laws surrounding the distribution of games. Even if there were no laws regarding this there should be more of an onus on parents to.. oh I don't know... actually take a motherfucking interest in raising their own goddamn children perhaps?! Call me naive if you must but last time I checked raising children was the job of parents. Not hysterical moralising jobsworth fuckwits.

I'll get my coat, I need some fresh air whilst my indignant rage subsides.

@Havin_it

not just any user can use sudo on Ubuntu, they have to be in sudoers file. Mostly this means that whoever installed the system is the default admin and when creating a new user account later on(if you use the gui) you must specifically select the admin user option in order to give the new account sudo privileges.

Well I completed the survey but felt the questions were somewhat leading. I call bull

perhaps I'm abnormal but I love my netbook. I've got an acer aspire one running ubuntu nbr and it's awesome. I get daily SVN builds of chromium, a stable and secure platform and it works great with just 512mb of RAM. I use it for development and media (my only gripe is flash but that's always been shit) and it doesn't turn my testicles into roast potatoes when I have it on my lap (unlike my dual core Athlon X2 machine with 2GB of RAM and an nvidia card).

chrome does have adblock. I'm writing this in Chromium on linux (ubuntu 9.04 using the daily ppa svn packages) I have the adsweep user script enabled and flashblocking.

Unfortunately adsweep is no longer maintained but anyone with a basic knowledge of javascript can maintain their own copy. I might start maintaining it in future and releasing it to the wild but don't currently have the time.

Having said that Opera is also very good (I'm particularly fond of the way it handles news feeds) and Firefox will always have an edge with its addon architecture (shame they can't make it a bit more resource friendly).

Bug exposes eight years of Linux kernel

NB
Linux

seems to be a lot of brooha aboot patching kernels

in the vast majority of cases it'll be a simple case of installing the patched kernel through your package manager, with a host list that can be done in 1 line of bash for any number of machines. The only proviso is taking into account mixed distro environments. Even then a couple of lines of bash should be all it takes to iteratively log into to every machine on the network, update the kernel and reboot the system.

Yes this is a big bug and I'm amazed it wasn't caught much sooner but all these whiny bitches going on about how difficult it'll be to rollout the fix seem to be making a mountain out of a molehill IMO.
