AVG scanner blasts internet with fake traffic

Jordan

On the AVG site

there's instructions to install AVG without the linkscanner component although they're a challenge to find... Even if you've already installed it, running the installer again from the Run prompt with the arguements /REMOVE_FEATURE fea_AVG_SafeSurf /REMOVE_FEATURE fea_AVG_SafeSearch will remove it/not install it in the first place

"Some choose to break that law, and are therefore properly caught by cameras."

Well here in the grand old land of Oz and more specifically, the state of Victoria the margin between the speed limit and what legally constitutes speeding (2km over) is less than the margin for error legally allowed in car spedos (+/-10% for all cars made before 2006)!

Doesn’t that seem at all unreasonable? Especially since the speed cameras aren't all that accurate... near my parents house one clocked a bus traveling up-hill in peak-hr traffic at 90km/h. They did a test with the same bus and empty of passengers with no traffic it couldn't manage to climb the hill at more than 45km/h. The only reference I can find at the moment - http://www.roadsense.com.au/fightforjustice.html search for the phrase "STA Bus" for the relevent paragraph.

Like Steve, I also think the solution is more traffic cops - as you said "The more 'revenue generating' from criminals, the better." and wouldn't having someone out there who can police all manner of bad driving help with this?

Bell Canada chokes BitTorrent traffic on someone else's ISP

Welcome to oz

Where we have monthly data transfer limits (which on some ISPs measure downloads only and others measure data in either direction). It means you have to manage your own traffic or you'll end up with a completly throttled connection for the rest of the month. Seems a little bit more sustainable than OMGUNLIMITEDDATA...

Mozilla CEO blasts Apple for putting security of the internet at risk

Pull yer head in Lilly

I could be wrong but if I recall correctly there are a number of programs for windows that bundle firefox with their installer and have it checked to install by default... I know it's the same for the google/yahoo/ms toolbar. I suppose since the toolbars don't interfere with Mozilla's market share there's no hissy fit required.

Apple sued over iPhone caller ID

In the grand old land of Oz...

Our CID doesn't send any information about the number calling, just the number itself so to get names with the number you have to have saved the name and number into the phone and it has to look it up so pretty much all mobiles are capable of doing this.
