T-Mobile getting out of blighty?

Rob

In short

oh Shit, taken me ages to find a mobile operator I like and I'm really happy with their tariffs :(

Rubbish claim

I don't care what mobile phone you have, whether it's got a amazing UI or not, I severely doubt the claim you can edit video on it with any type of competency.

Yay for indie film makers

This sort of thing is becoming more and more popular.

I've seen at least 2 'bedroom' productions using the Star Wars franchise, where would we be without Aftereffects and/or Final Cut Pro.

Listen to Bucky

It's nothing to do with infections it's all to do with sales figures for the film.

A whole country not turning up to see your film as expected will have a dramatic effect on global box office sale figures.

'iPhone lite' and the business of world domination

@AC 00:17

"You mean, for example, like how the original iPhone was released using EDGE, and shortly afterwards 3G was all the rage??"

LOL 3G was all the rage even before Apple released the first EDGE enabled iPhone, hence why everyone laughed in the UK at O2 who had to start rolling the network out when most of the other operators were winding the service down.

Curious

The migraines I've suffered from tend to stop me from looking at anything (generally the pain won't subside until I have the eye concerned closed).

I agree with other posters, I think she was being watched by her employer for the straw that incapacitated the camel. I can't imagine for one second any employer is going to go to the expense/effort to watch all of their employees on Facebook. A pain in the arse employee is a different story though, anything short of framing them to get them out the door.

Govt powers up electric cars with £5k subsidy

Rob
Go

Cynical

Is this not an excuse for the manufacturers just to add about 4-5k on to their prices, that way they get even more money out of us, we buy the car and hand over our tax money at the same time.

The theme for this recession is hand outs to all and any who want them, those who work for a living and pay tax are exempt though.

IPCC U-turn on Tomlinson CCTV

Rob

Unfortunate?

I've seen this sort of thing before and the video footage that was released and running on the mainstream media a lot, only seems to actually cover the event from when the man was pushed over. I want to see the footage before hand to make sure he wasn't actually causing the police any hassle.

This reminds me of a picture of the poll tax riots one of my lecturers showed us to point out the power of a picture (edited or otherwise). First off it looks like a crusty protestor is hanging onto a street railing whilst being pulled away by police, a woman is on the other side of the railing and looks like she is shouting at the protester, she's well dressed and looks a notch above middle class. When the full picture was actually reveiled she was shouting at the police to leave the fellow protestor alone as she thought the police we're being heavy handed.

We seemed to have breed a society that's quick too make a judgement on an image/video, yet by todays standards of technology they are the easiest to edit for a purpose, yet we still judge.

Brown pledges to make Britain's drivers greener

Rob
Go

Stunned by Brown's stupidity

He's definately grabbing at straws now, what exactly will make Nissan want to build their cars over here? Is Brown going to suddenly lower the minimum wage so that Nissan pay their workers less to compete with other countries low-cost workforce.

Personally I'd like to see Brown and all his NuLabia lackies to plug themselves into these new charging points, arse first.

"They are taking on yet another web2 service that has a broken business model and will loose them money left right and centre."

My thoughts exactly, my biggest problemm is the fact that a lot of business clients want to jump on these bandwagons as another communication channel with their audience but becuase they are free they think I'm being paraniod when I tell them they should have a back up in case there comes a time when the service is suddenly yanked, without paying a fee for teh service there is no service level agreement that can be enforced.

IT Angle

Lost

Why have we suddenly started re-inventing things in the IT world?

Cloud Computing - Mainframe computing

Web 2.0 - The internet (looks pretty much the same as the Web 1.0 and offers nothing new that couldn't already be done)

Offline web apps - cheap/free software you install on your PC

I re-invent things too, done a car and a washing machine so far, took me a number of minutes to realise these devices were already in existence and usually because I'd drunk/smoked/injected/snorted too much [delete as appropriate, depending on which tech company you work for]

(I know what the IT angle is, so call this the confused IT industry icon for this post)

Interface design

I think MS will leave it all alone and let people like HTC design an interface for WM, it would be nice though if it was more like a skin, least that way HTC could design a true interface, not one that disappears once you've selected an option in TouchFLO and takes you to the standard WM interface.

Even some of the ROM Cookers out there have done a better job with WM's UI.

Woolies to be resurrected as online-only store

Rob

Worrying

27,000 jobs lost and Wollies will still live on, how many jobs will be created with it's shift to online only.

Not exactly the death knell for high street retailers but it's still quite scary for that such a large retailer will stil live on and the 27,000 staff are wondering how they will live.

I wonder how much they bought the brand for?

Sony stands by 10m PS3 full-year sales forecast

Rob

@Lee

You hit the nail on the head Lee, Wii is a different target audience all together. I like my computer games I do play a few online with some mates via the PC. The Wii however is a different class of social gaming, you have people online, or you have people round, the number of times I've got together with a few mates round and we've wasted a few hours laughing our arses off at each other playing on the Wii.

Makes for a half decent web surfing experience via the TV as well. In the long run I think the Wii will offer a lot more services that involve a lot more of the household in the years to come. This will be the typical household and one of those members will probably own a 360/PS3 as well as.

Sony warns of first operating loss in 14 years

Rob

Hardly a surprise

Sony haven't been fairing to well, I'd say, for at least a couple of years. They do produce good kit in some areas but fail in others and when it is good it's usually a tad too expensive.

It probably doesn't help that all the other departments are keeping the PS3 business alive, I presume they are still selling each unit at a loss.

Google AdWords: 11 herbs and spices revealed

Rob
Go

@All very well but

I'm with you, I don't think it's a stable business model. Granted I can't see any other way Google could stay afloat if they didn't, but on the other hand I can't actually see the Ad's making enough money compared to how much Google is supposed to be worth including assets, capital and such like.

Same goes for Facebook, could this be the year where companies like that end up facing financial difficulties and end up going to the wall. Most of the time I think these companies stay afloat due to creative accounting, which seems to be rife now.
