Recession drives pies sky high

Rob
Go

Further breakdown of stats required

I think it's important to find out what quantity were short-crust and puff pastry. As a previous poster mentioned a bit of pastry, cardboard or otherwise, dumped on some meat does not constitute a pie, I think there is a need for a Pie quango authority, I'll happily head this up, I feel it's my duty to make sure Britain produces proper pies (pastry top, bottom and sides).

I'll be accepting applications to become board members as soon as central gov assigns me an office block (all glass and steel please) and large wads of cash on a regular basis and preferrably an additional benefit of a gym membership as well.

Badgers

Standards of today

In the BBC story they quote Ben Parr of Mashable.com as saying "It is one of the slickest web applications I have seen in a long time".

That I think sums up the reason we have such usless sites like Twitter and other badger related crap on the web.

Dear Ben Parr,

You are a twat.

Kind Regards,

Apple: third-party iOS dev tools OK after all

Rob

@AC (or Edwin)

My reality is grounded on cost and performance especially when referring to electronic kit, I don't see Apple's products marrying the cost vs performance part though. Example being my phone does all that the iPhone does out of the box bar any Apple specific products/services and costs a mere fraction in terms of ownership. The same can be said for my PC's at home, they cost a lot less and in particular my desktop quad core's speed is like slippery poo off a greased spade, all for a mere £500 and no tinkering needed (small white lie, I added another SLI graphics card for that extra whooph).

Last time I checked Jobs was a board member of Disney / Pixar and I think the success of Disney was well established before he became a board member by default due to the Pixar aquisition. Ignore me though as what I've said might distort your reality bubble a bit, drink more kool-aid and all will be well again.

Rob

Sounds like...

... the Marketing and business development depts have wrestled some control away from Jobs. Apple's greatest move would be to get rid of Steve Jobs or it could be their downfall.

TomTom drums up upgrade for iPhone app

Why is it...

... that anything iPhone related has usually already been done.

Copilot already has all these features and yes your right navigating to a picture is generally useless unless it was someone who has geotagging enabled on their phone and sent you the image, other than that if I was there to take the pic, I'd bookmark in Copilot while I was standing there.

CoPilot convert

I used to be a hardcore TomTom fan, but quickly got cheesed off with paying a lot of money for maps/regions only to be forced into paying that cost again at full price when the software was updated. No such thing as customer loyalty? My AV gives me 40% renewal discount each year.

After getting fed up of being ripped off by them I tried CoPilot, love it, probably use it's features more than I do TomTom's and I've forked out for the traffic which is v.useful. Another thing I like about CoPilot is the ability to update the speed camera database for free whenever I like (although judging by the financial pressures of today's councils might not be much of an issue for much longer).

Prefer the overall look of CoPilot as well, find their map interface easy on the eye.

Google boss turns Wave demise into success of sorts

Rob

Sorry should have been a bit clearer...

I used to use Altavista too but I think Google was the first search engine to change the game at that point in history and offer something a little different.

Facebook is the same, it wasn't the first on the scene as we already had things like Friends-Reunited but Facebook offered something a little different.

I think the point I was trying to get across (albeit, badly) was both of these channels/platforms now have a huge userbase built from their initial success, no matter what I personally think of them I think it would be hard to shift the momentum of that userbase and harder because of the social networking issue. It takes a couple of friends to be brave and move to a new social networking platform and convince all of their mates and their mate's mates to shift too.

Rob
WTF?

Google unseat Facebook!?!

Shirley Google must realise that won't happen, in the same way that other serach engines haven't really unseated Google. It's a case of get in there first get a userbase and develop for them according to needs, you keep audience and it grows.

Social networking is a hard nut to crack, how many sites do you really want to sign up to just to stay in contact with friends. MS have pretty much given up on people populating their Live spaces with content so have instead opt'd for agregatting info from your other social networking sites, smart move and probably the way Google should go rather than writing it's own version (if indeed they are doing that).

I think they want to produce less articles on the site so have design it so that each article takes up more space, helps to cover up the poor journalism I suppose.

Are you on WiFi?

If so you might want to adjust your MTU value from 1500 to 1492, combination of Win7 and WiFi can in some instances make the WiFi bork at max value of 1500, I've changed a few machines to 1492 (or there abouts) and it's speeded up read and write speeds across a WiFi network. Other factors can cause grief but that all depends on your network setup.

3D films fall flat

Rob
Alert

Spot on...

... gone are the days of epics from Directors like Akira Kurosawa, some of his greatest were in B&W and 3D would be completely lost on them as its' the plot as well as the scene compostion that made them beautiful.

I can think of a ton of European films that rely on character depth and storyline that blow most films out of the water today.
