Have I missed something...

... why don't these super rich families cough up 185,000 for a name rather than half a mil for someone else to do it..... ah sorry I forgot to invoke the 'more money than sense' rule.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S Android smartphone

Rob

If it's in the first few months...

... then you can cite 'not fit for purpose' which will stand in any UK court. There is certain tech that should last a lot longer than a year even with normal to heavy use and the courts will back that.

(sorry can't find the reference to the test case that happened in the UK that I'm basing this on).

Blimey...

... 90% now that's the Sony Erricsson I know of old.

My missus is due for an upgrade soon, this is another one for her to add to the list to look at (although judging by the actual look ofthe phone I have a strong feeling this one could win).

Apple's US bid to ban Samsung tabs hinges on design

If the judge had held...

... 3 devices up (I know she would need an extra hand), 1 being iPad, 1 being the Samsung and the other being a prop tablet from Star Trek the Next Generation, I pretty sure they would still have trouble identifying which was which from a distance.

Either way this case still looks like desperate by Apple.

WHSmith launches e-book reader rivals to Amazon Kindle

Completely agree...

Chinese whisper of low-cost Kindle-confounding iPad

They need too...

... it's the only thing that is blocking Apple from mass market appeal is varying priced models from low to high. Android phones are out-selling iPhone 2:1 last time I read, because Android is on devices at all different price points, basic market sense your price point will always be one of the factors that appeals to mass market.

You want market saturation, build models for the rich and poor alike.

The Golden age of gaming for me usually involved something from either Delphine or Bullfrog, they usually produced games that used to really draw you in.

Totally agree...

"...but in doing so it is also abandoning its Web 2.0 aspirations. Which, all told, is probably a good thing."

Definately the right thing to do for Amazon, let others try a new angle on the Web2.0 diahorea. Being a strong platform for media distribution (books, audio, video) and making your content available on many platforms is definately going to challenge iTunes current grip on the market. To be honest I'm already sold on Amazon's services, they are convenient and allow me to consume as much media as I want/need on any of the devices I currently own, that's the best type of freedom I'm gonna get with DRM media and to be honest I don't mind it, stops me from being a 100% proof freetard.

Amazon revamps E Ink Kindle line

Rob

Prehaps...

... this line of products is what they were waiting for before they launched those services in other regions. Let the US market determine take-up and help set some figures for predicted uptake in other regions.

At the end of the day Amazon will release those services over here eventually, just like the 'Prime' service.

Ditto...

...my wife takes her Kindle almost everywhere, I ended up not waiting for Amazon's version of a Pad and bought an Asus Transformer instead and I definately haven't regretted that decision :)

I saw the special edition advertised on Xbox, will be downloading the demo tonight :))))))))))

Just had a phone call from CPW

Probably regret mentioning this, but I also doubt my chances of getting down to a CPW shop in time so doesn't really matter.

My local shop phoned to let me know that the 'Large' CPW shops are expecting very limited stock in the next couple of days (count that as from the date of this post).

I'll be phoning my nearest 'Large' store first thing tomorrow morning to see what they say (they will all probably be knobbled by the staff, I bet).

Why Android houses should give Google the 'fork you'

Rob
Angel

Good position

Amazon is in a good position as well, with a forked version they can offer there own App Store as a fork from whispernet which supports the Kindle. There are already multiple Droid App Markets out there, but to have one with a large brand name backing would surely give it some legs.

DHS scraps nukes-in-cargo-containers scan plan

Rob
WTF?

Bizarre intelligince to say the least...

... I would have thought that profiling a terrorist organisation that can obtain a fully working nuke in the first place they would also consider that the terrorist organisation that can achieve that would also have the ability to pull off a different form of delivery. I would suggest a small automated submarine (drug cartels can do it) shadowing a container ship coming into port, or better still a bit of wielding and install it in the ship itself and say maybe pack some extra standard explosives in a few cargo containers wait till it's in range (doesn't even need to get to the point of docking with that much explosives in, as you're going for Area of Effect).

Upgrade in many ways

For those of you wanting to upgrade your sharks, you have obviously missed the potential of this technology, it's a cell sized laser.

Why bother with the expensive overheads of sharks (obviously they were needed 'cause the laser was big and so is a shark), ditch them and move on to my newly created production run of 'flying fish with laser beams in their eyes' this doubles their effeiciency of being able to kill any smartly dressed, quipping secrent agent that staumbles across your hideaway.

HTC Flyer 7in Android tablet

Rob
Angel

Almost...

... I agree with the review, out of all the custom interfaces that have been slapped on Android that I have tried I think Sense is by far the nicest and most functional. I'm definately looking to get a Pad at some point but at the moment I think I will wait to see what HTC's 10inch will be like and at what price. For the first time ever I'm not going to be too much of an early adopter until prices and offerings settle down a bit. Saying that if I suudenly came into a large chunk of cash I could quite happily spend (large enough that I could bypass common sense), then I would definately grab one of these.

HTC is always worth keeping an eye on in my book, it would be nice if they could just concentrate on the other services they provide and bring them up to speed (sense.com?) I would be a loyal customer.

RAF Eurofighter Typhoons 'beaten by Pakistani F-16s'

Rob
WTF?

RE: Why buy Typhoons at huge expense

Seriously, why are you even asking this question, this the MoD were talking about, it's policy to buy kit and not train people properly to use it. One of the biggest problems we had with picking he Apache attack helicopter was we had a load sitting around but only a couple of pilots trained to use them (I think they may have since corrected that issue).

Kinect made me trade-in...

... well more like my wife did, she likes the Kinect side of things on the Xbox for fitness. I never really played the Wii we had as the games never really grabbed me, there is only so many Mario titles you can buy without being a fanatic.

Game did a good trade-in for the Wii, all the games and all the accessories we'd bought, ended up being a nice discount on a new Xbox 360 Kinect pack, plus I got to buy a few games I actually play.

HTC exposes customers' privates

Rob
Meh

These young'uns

I think the thing to remember is that HTC is relatively young when compared to the rest of it's competitiors, granted it's been making braned smartphones for mobile networks for a number of years but it's only recently moved up a gear to become a brand and sell phones on that brand.

Don't consider this an excuse on their behalf, I'm still hoping they get the sense.com site sorted sooner rather than later, I just getthe feelign this is all still a bit new to them.
