James Cameron to amp up Avatar frame rate

Sarah Bee (Written by Reg staff)

Re: @Sarah and Cowherd

I think the characters are fine in context - we know what they want and we can empathise with them and want them to succeed, which is all you really need. It's very basic and it presses your buttons. For more subtle and enriching character development, you go elsewhere. Cameron knows exactly what he's doing with the various elements of film - he's a master.

For seriously bad/non-existent characterisation, check the Star Wars prequels.

Re: PochaFernDeath

It's a simple classic storyline as befits an epic film. You know this is acceptable cinematic convention, and happens all the time, right? Every movie is not expected to be Memento.

I sure am looking forward to an afternoon of people bleating "IT'S DANCES WITH SMURFS LOL" as if they were the first to ever think of it, though.

George Lucas 'very happy' with 3D Phantom Menace

Re: Re: @Annihilator

No no the original one as in the original release of 4-6 - rather than the bullshit CGI-doctored/bespoiled/pointlessly monkeyed-with version of those released a few years ago.

Lucas makes me angry, and I'm not even a Star Wars fan. The sooner he removes himself from the industry and goes into ostrich-breeding or something, the better.

Re: Attempt at humour crosses line to offensiveness

Not really. It's a readily-understood simile that happens to pertain to the masculine. I hate all that fannying about with "a full-time girlfriend or boyfriend and a high-class escort service (male or female)". Who needs that?

Also, well, Reg readers are overwhelmingly male. I doubt very many women read this article at all, and if they did I doubt they were offended by the 'othering'.

Seriously, we've got enough to worry about and this isn't... worryable.

Re: Managed 30 seconds before hitting the mute

Ah but you don't realise the songwriting craft that goes into the stuff that offends your ears. Just as The Sun is written and put together by very clever people, so the kind of pop you find incredibly dumb is made by very musical people. Honest. This is a cut below.

But it is essentially the musical equivalent of a Moonpig card, so in some ways it's unfair to compare it to 'proper' pop made by real pros. The poor kid certainly isn't a pro, and as such I think she did OK, mind-bogglingly awful as the song is. Apparently she can sing pretty well - they just autotuned her to hell.

Sarah Bee (Written by Reg staff)

Re: My complaint exactly.

Define 'faith'. I'm an atheist and I don't consider that this makes me a follower of a faith. I don't really get the need of people to apply religious structure to atheism and treat it like some sort of inverted religion. It is what you make it. It might be nothing for a lot of people, just a default position once you've ruled out all the possible religions.

Watch the Plinkett reviews (first one linked to at the end of the article), seriously - brilliant (and extremely astute), detailed dissection of the whole mess in raucously offensive fashion. Much more entertaining than the films themselves, and completely righteous. You'll feel much better.
