iPhone upgrades - a one-way control-freak street

Dave Ross
FAIL

I love how...

Apple's definition of "best user experience" seems to include crashes and rapid battery drain...

I skipped the upgrade from 3.0 to 3.1 entirely so that I could avoid this "best user experience" after hearing about the problems with 3.1.

Microsoft counters Windows 7 upgrade hack advice

Dave Ross

Why?

Why would anyone buy the upgrade version of Win7 when the full version costs £10 more in pretty much every high street store?

Surely no one in their right minds would want to do anything other than a clean install of an OS anyway!

UK.gov won't drop 50p high speed broadband tax plans - yet

Dave Ross
FAIL

Tory promises...

"The Tories are widely expected to oppose the 50p broadband levy being contained in the finance bill. So should they be elected to government next year, the £6 a year tax on fixed phone lines could indeed be ditched."

That would require a political party to actually enact a manifesto promise that would loose them money, something pretty much unheard of in politics...

iPhone KB?

The iPhone KB is still anything but perfect as far as rotating into landscape goes. It may rotate very nicely when it comes to most things but there are still the odd few (for instance, entering passwords) places where it doesn't. Why is this? I was praying for this with 3.0 and still not there.

In the end, the 3.0 update turned out to be a bit disapointing really.

iPhone 3.0 - born on schedule...

Dave Ross

Hmmm

Updated to 3.0 the other day and the first thing I noticed is how much slower 3rd party apps run than they used to, very clunky :(

Copy and paste is unintuitive and messy (takes too long to pop up the copy/paste buttons too), voice app is pointless and the search function needs to be able to ignore trashed items and search within 3rd party apps, tho i suppose that may have to rely on them to update.

El reg needs to have a "meh" icon...

Broadband tax of £6 per year to fund rural fibre rollout

F1 waves goodbye to KERS

Dave Ross

F1 tech

But F1 tech does filter down to road cars, many of the recent Ferraris feature F1 derived technology.

However, your average shopping car, no. Not a bit, and thats the point. F1 has been Ferrari's play/test ground for quite a few years now, but virtually nothing from that level of motorsport filters down to cars your average guy on the street could afford unless he decides he wants a carbon fibre panel somewhere on his dashboard :)

Pirate Party wins seat in European Parliament

Dave Ross
Heart

Mortifying.

I am horrified that the British Nazi Party managed to get two seats in Europe. A sad day indeed.

While I don't mind idiots like this kicking up a fuss, I am stunned that enough British citizens would actually take a bunch of buffons like this seriously enough to vote for them.

The continued degradation of this country that was started by the Thatcher government and gleefully continued by the Blair one is one of the most mortifying things I have the extreme displeasure to witness.

Oh, and go Pirate party! :)

Fact is, the vast majority of adult rated content in SL is on privately owned sims which this will not affect. This only applies to sites that are built on mainland sims. I don't think they will be too bothered by being moved to a new (and most likely much faster) sim.
