So, what's the best sci-fi film never made?

James Campbell Andrew

also the Jon Shannow books

'Wolf in Shadow' would make a good film, I think.

Ben Bova's "Mars"

...would be pretty good.

+1 for the Culture

As mentioned elsewhere, some of the Culture books would make good films - 'Consider Phlebas', 'Use of Weapons', 'The Player of Games'. Others (like 'Excession') would be quite difficult to turn into a film and still be true to the book - 'Excession' is a fabulously complicated book with lots and lots of subtle nuances.

Greg Bear's 'Eon' would be damn good, even if they effectively turned both it and the sequel 'Eternity' into a single film.

+1 vote for the 'Lensman' books.

+1 vote for the 'Stainless Steel Rat' books.

Also the 'Deathworld' trilogy - they might work quite well.

Galaga! GALAGA!

Shame, shame on you for not mentioning Galaga! By far the best of the Space Invaders-esque games, far better than Galaxians.

Nostalgia

I have every issue of PCW from issue 1 up until mid-1993. They make fantastic reading.

Thanks for the memories guys.

Apple faces iTunes case in Norway

They're blaming the wrong people

The Norwegian consumer watchdog would be better off directing their ire at the record companies that refuse to *supply* non-DRM'd content to iTunes.

Blaming Apple for this is like blaming a newsagent for something printed in the Daily Mail.

Thumb Down

"You need a Wi-Fi connection to access the iTunes App Store"

That's not actually true. There's a 10MB limit (from memory - could be wrong) if you don't use WiFi, but otherwise it's fine. And most apps are less than 10MB.

Better resolution than that...

The maximum resolution on the Beeb was 640x256x2 colours (MODE 0), not 320x256 (MODEs 1 & 4)

Fabulous machine. I still use one, for games mostly

Old news...

The fact that she used a stunt-bum has been known for quite some time - it was mentioned in the commentary of the DVD release.
