Yes, it (at least the Voda one) has a 'whitelist' of allowed numbers.

The FCC require cellular carriers to provide fairly accurate location information on E911 calls, see:-
http://sss-mag.com/e911.html
Basically you need to stick a GPS receiver in the phone or rely on measuring the phone signal's time of arrival at different base stations and using triangulation to estimate location. I would expect a GPS phone to use the latter as a fall-back alternative, maybe it didn't work in this case.
Based on experience with my Reciva based Logik IR100:-
It will play back internet radio stations using OGG, must admit I haven't tried audio files.
Yes, if the Reciva web site goes titsup I think you're left with a media streamer.
Mine has worked using Tversity and Twonky UPnP SW, although the latest FW is causing issues. Stiil working with WMP11 :-/
>>1) Does it do full "Aunties 7 Day listen again" - or just the live streaming of whats currently playing?
Judging by the Roberts web site, yes. I would hope so, given that my 50 quid Logik IR100, which uses the same Reciva chipset, does support 7 day listen again. Let us hope the BBC don't switch their 'radio' web output to Flashplayer, as I don't think these radios can cope with Flash :-((
With teenaged daughters whose musical tastes change every 5 minutes buying music to listen to forever is a waste of time and money in our household. The Napster subscription is equivalent to roughly one full price CD purchase a month, so it's much better than piles of CDs that may as well be coasters after a month or two. One subscription allows storage / playback on 3 PCs, so HDD failure isn't much of a risk.
... and it all works nicely again now I've dumped Pipex/Tiscali :-)
>>"My download speeds from Napster using my 'pipex' ADSL line were down to a whopping 3kb/s yesterday afetrnoon"
>>You should be ringing them up to thanks them - Napster sucks!! :)
Serious question : is there actually an alternative 'all you can eat' download service available in the UK, covering most mainstream labels / artists? With two teenaged daughters whose musical tastes change every 5 minutes,10 quid a month rental to Napster is actually a pretty cost effective solution for me. Plus they let me use it sometimes ;-)
Napster still seem to have an image problem, the majority of Pipex / tiscali "support" staff I've spoken to in the last few days seemed to think Napster is still some 'naughty' P2P service.
Well surprise, surprise I couldn't log on to Napster yesterday evening. I understand the concept of line contention, I understand that I'll get the service I pay for. My Pipex 'to go' account has a 15Gb per month limit, my typical usage is < 5 Gb. Yet, all of a sudden, I'm permantently on the naughty pipe, despite the fact I don't use P2P, one or two programmes a month are downloaded from BBC iPlayer, but even that's configured to downlaod only, no uploads. Oh well I wonder how long it'll take to get a MAC from Tiscali :-/
When I spoke to tech support they denied port blocking, despite the fact that during the late evening I couldn't even log in to my Napster account, let alone download anything. A quick double check with the 56k dial -up allowed immediate log in to my Napster account. Time to move ISP methinks.
