BUSTED TWO: Carrier IQ monitor-ware on iPhones too?
Isn't it obvious?
For years, people marveled at Google Maps when it displays traffic information. We all watch the morning news and traffic report which lights up all the problem areas in red. Google Maps will give you traffic information even on small side streets.
So, nobody is wondering where all this traffic data comes from? It comes from spying on your cell phone location with this software. duh!
Verizon denies blocking competitive Google Wallet
Google Wallet is bad news
I was using Google Wallet until I had a problem. I went to Google's website to contact a human being (ha ha ha). There is no phone number. There is no email. There is a heavy java form submission which will pass on your concern directly to the merchant. There is no way to contact Google about a problem with my credit card. All of Google's emails come from noreply. Email to support is bounced back as no such user. Yet, I was giving them all my banking information.
I deleted all my banking information from Google Wallet. I hope they go belly-up. This is what Verizon means when they say they want to provide a good customer experience.
Google - if you want to play with my money, you have to provide a phone number to call when I have problems. I am weary of talking to a machine.

When is an OS not an OS?
An operating system should not be creeping into my BIOS. The real reason they're doing this is to further Microsoft's vision - to turn the PC into an entertainment system. Downloadable music and video must not be copied. They tried and failed encrypting the hard drive and the introduction of Vista. So, they've finally gotten into the BIOS.
This is not about squashing virus. This is about control. I don't want or need a PC to be a home entertainment system. I need a PC to be a PC.
I switched to Mac. Yes, it's better; much better.

TSA officer accused of stealing from passenger luggage
It's worse than you think...
No matter how bad you think the TSA is, it's worse. In New Jersey, those with criminal backgrounds are typically given jobs by the prison system. One favorite career path is working as a baggage handler for the airlines.

Apple to release Mac OS X Lion on Wednesday
Don't do it
Do not upgrade to Lion this week else you will be flushing out bugs from their operating system for months. Here are some gems from past 10.x.0 releases:
Plugging in an external hard drive tends to wipe out all the data on it.
External drives tend to disconnect themselves causing data corruption.
Firewire 400 hardware failing completely after upgrading.
It seems that every year Apple tends to let more horrors slip past their "quality testing." Don't be a statistic. Wait a few months and set a Google Alert for "10.7 problems"
Microsoft plans to open 75 retail stores in US
For people who camp out in front of the store....
I never purchase software which is less than (1) year old or is at revision 0. Why do people insist on doing unpaid beta testing for Microsoft. Some even PAY Microsoft to speak with them to tell them about their bugs.
When considering a software upgrade, I consider what the cost is, what it will do for me, and how many hours I will need to fight with it to make it work i.e. Apple's latest update 10.6.8 wrecks a lot of applications and only provides a mechanism to install 10.7.0. I declined. See how easy that was?

Too many cats
I wouldn't touch it until it reaches 10.7.5. I have no desire to debug Apple's operating system again. Past blunders included external drives which ejected on their own and wiped out all data on them. Or, firewire 400 drivers which were never tested or working.

FAA to pilots: Expect 'unreliable or unavailable' GPS signals
Non issue
Commercial pilots do not use GPS for navigation. They use a series of land-based beacons such as VOR's. Some private pilots flying light aircraft may use GPS since it's easier, but only during VFR (Visual Flight Rules). On this occasion, private pilots will simply switch over to the older system.

Red Herrings
The whole hate speech issue is a red herring. Rackspace, I'm guessing, expected millions of hits to a tiny website over a short period of time. This would have brought down the servers and the network and disrupt service to its customers. It's a matter of bandwidth, as literally everyone in the world tunes in to see the book burning.
