Typical Apple Arrogance.
Apple created this problem with their buggy implementation of iMessage. Either Apple are incompetent or it is a deliberate attempt to make it hard to switch.
I suspect it's arrogance and incompetence.
Most phone users are not IT experts. Many have never used email or internet other than on phone. In Many Developed Countries as high as 33% have not used Internet.
As another has said, the MS AV is free and I'd argue it's probably not much different to any Paid AV.
The whole history of paid AV products is false positives that cripple machines. I'm no MS fan, but I wouldn't single them out on this.
Not when there are bigger targets of MS stupidity like one GUI for everything (CE era Desktop WIMP stupid on 320 x 240 PDA, today Zune GUI stupid on Desktop PC). The Ribbon. etc
I have a choice of 3 laptops, 3 PCs and a Server with backups.
I have the network on two switches (I can move stuff to one and ditch some stuff).
I have a spare modem. spare router.

No, EOL of MS XP is due to MS Ego. Nothing else. As has been the case for every MS OS ever. XP EOL isn't anything new. MS has always sold support, at about 4 levels. (Tech Net, MSDN, Select and Bespoke Megacorp/Government contracts). Actually MS just sold a year's Support of XP to a UK Gov. Dept. But on condition they migrate to Win 8.x not Linux.
It's the old Big Company Server Subscription model of 1960s.
There is no way at all it's ever "better" for the consumer. You are losing control to a 3rd party. What if they lose interest in the business? What if their disaster planning is rubbish? What if they have a single point of failure?
I'll use the "Cloud" (my rented hosting or 3rd party services) to "publish" my Web sites, share files, do email and browse other people's web sites.
Self hosting isn't practical for an individual or SoHo or SME.
Cloud services are an abomination and backward step in cost, privacy, reliability, access, control etc for applications.
The Policies and procedures of most Cloud providers are opaque or a lie.

They had a nice widget thing on my Nokia Phone. Then Nokia inexplicably killed all the widgets insisting that their useless "app shop" would be a replacement. But the value of Symbian then was
a) Nice little Widgets (Comics, Teletext, Yahoo etc)
b) Able to install free or paid application downloads from anywhere like a real OS such as Linux or Windows.
The App store never had replacements for ANY of the Widgets.
What exactly is Yahoo's revenue model anyway?
For creative people that have no choice but to use Adobe Products.

I seriously doubt that the Cloud Subscription model will save customers money in the longer term. It's designed to make Adobe, Microsoft etc more money. So "savings" are impossible.

Unless your infrastructure is rubbish, then the bottle neck is ONLY at the air interface. The backhaul has to be able to manage full peak base station traffic anyway. If your Base Station is only using copper or ancient Microwave too slow (modern microwave and fibre can feed easily 5 to 10 base stations) then this is like lipstick on a pig.
You need fibre or dedicated microwave link anyway for any decent basestation.
Caching needs large number of users to be effective.
A Mobile Basestation can only serve video to about 15 users if signal is good, less if signal is poor.
This is about as useful as a cache in a WiFi Air point (which isn't useful). Which actually on average can server more users faster than LTE!
Caching may be useful at the edge Router, Exchange or Cable head ends, waste of money at a Mobile or even fixed wireless (x 10 to x30 capacity) base station.
We'll be generous and assume it's done properly.
But maybe the answer is that it all makes the Sahara look teaming with life and Mars was only ever a dead rock.
Hopefully it's more interesting than that, but I suspect anything really interesting of extra-terrestrial nature is on a planet in the Goldilocks zone of another Star.

Within certain constraints the idea isn't without merit. But you need a sensible strong regulator to co-ordinate, sort disputes and run a database.
Ad Hoc and Soft Touch Regulation would be a disaster.
(P.S. Why share a Sinclair Spectrum? One could be retailed at £20 with better keyboard, composite video, HDMI and optional LCD clamshell lid. Only 2 or 3 chips needed. Maybe someone has got a conversion kit already for Ardunio or Raspberry Pi?).
I liked it. But it didn't run well in NTVDM on NT4.0
So I updated a clone in Modula-2 (on DOS, written maybe 1991) to run native in Win32 in a console in 1996. I added ability to use a mouse and double click on a word, and have split screen or single screen and list of open files. If a file of same name existed it opened it, or if not offered to create it. Each file normally a chapter.
I used 3rd party spelling checker on Files.
But by 2002 was using Windows Word for all editing with all the stupid options turned off. I guess no-one showed him the Preferences / Options / Tools menus. I'd wonder what options his Web Browser on separate PC uses. To day I might use Libre Office to write a book.
Perhaps Word Processors should have "Profiles". (Novel, Text to upload to Blog, Flier etc).
I think it shows a great lack of curiosity as he can achieve exactly what he wants on Linux, OS X or any Windows version.

2G (GSM) can be turned off by any operator in Ireland with just 6 months notice now. Tesco was selling Doro phones that only do 2G.
3G isn't just for Smartphones (Carphone Warehouse: Only Smartphones have 3G). It is supposed to have a better codec than GSM. Also what use is a 2G only phone when operators switch 900 & 1800 to 3G?
Sampling at 192kHz allows you to get closer to 22KHz or 24 kHz (CD or MP3) with a cheaper filter. Originally material started to drop in response between 12kHz and 16KHz. With 44.1kHz there must be nothing above the background level at 22.05KHz. A Brick Wall or Cliff filter in Analogue electronics isn't possible.
With 192kHz sampling you can have flat response (inc Phase) up to 24kHz and then use a DSP filter to limit content below 22kHz before downsampling for CD or Distribution. Anti-aliasing.
Distribution doesn't need more than 16 bits & 44KHz Sampling. But it's an advantage to capture and edit/process/mix to use 192kHz & 24bit ADC.
On playing also interpolation to 192KHz sampling simply allows a cheaper 22kHz low pass filter on the DAC or Class D Amplifier, you have to have a filter after a DAC before an Analogue Amp (Or after Class D amp driving earphone or Speaker).
I came across some 1970s Punch cards used as book marks in an old cookery book at Christmas. My wife dropped three boxes of cards (large Fortran program) down the stairs once. She was delighted with the CRT screen editor on UCSD-Pascal vs removing an card or two and punching new ones to edit a program.
She still prints "hard copy" of everything, 35 years later.
The kind of nano silver in Anti smelly stuff isn't RF blocking or conductive. An RF shield has to have wires long enough and in all directions to "short out" any induced current. Foil or fine mesh is best. Any metallic threads in a yarn used to weave will not short reliably.
Also two large holes at base and big hole at top. Maybe lead lined pants would block an ionising radiation source at crotch level, but these will not block RF.
Also there is ZERO evidence that any normally encountered RF Field has any harmful effect. A strong field will give cataracts, like if you peer into running transmitter waveguide or stand in front of high power radar dish (pretty much like microwave oven 700W average power, 10kW repetitive peak).
Ours are lazy then. There is no MW radio here (during daylight and Robins don't fly after dark) and the Robins never go anywhere.

Nintendo needs a better strategy or they are toast. Perhaps selling their games on iTunes for iThings and Playstore for Android and maybe on Amazon (40% of UK online purchases last year were on Amazon). Amazon has a TV box/console thing and will happily sell anyones' games for it. Probably.

DMI (A project for Production) was doomed from the start. Ironically BBC R&D had a better working Archive system ALREADY which could have been extended for Production.
