You name it, someone has a fetish for it. To be true their "rule" they really need to ban all pictures(and quite a few words).
I think they probably meant S&M content.

I use the nightly
and it hasn't had any obvious bugs for quite a while plus all extensions I use are compatible.
And..
What the fuck does it matter if they have 500 betas( - its about a releasing when its ready, unlike a lot of commercial software, which is about releasing it when you can get away with it. I'm a longtime Debian user as well - they've got it right, its ready when its ready.

I can see you're unhappy
with Google. I can see that it must be a pain to have to rely on their ad products for your income, and having to dance to their tune, but then, hey, that's capitalism for you. Google TV may or may not be crap. Buzz was a really bad idea, so I didn't subscribe. But...so what? At least they're not Microsoft, & surely Facebook et al are worse when it comes to exposing customers privacy etc. For a corp of that size they could be a lot more evil (eg News Corp, Union Carbide etc etc)

The problem with negative news items about Iran is that you can't really believe any of them without independent verification(& how likely is that?) because they are the subject of so much propaganda. Its like the USSR - when the Cold War ended it became clear that the US was by far the larger aggressor - the USSR were shit-scared of what the Yanks might do (e.g. Nixon's "Madman Theory" - he wanted the Soviets to believe he was capable of anything, i.e. batshit insane). Iran is afraid of Israel & the US for good reason - they are the aggressors.

Their websites really are a bit crap
when you consider the amount of cash they've got to spend. None of their web pages have human-readable names, & the number of times I've clicked on links that don't work or something else rubbish is uncountable. They seem to delight in making stuff hard to find(MS' attitude to the net is all wrong - they don't 'get' it).
Their one good product is Visual Studio, probably because they know that developers wouldn't stand for the shit sandwich everyone else gets served, & would go elsewhere.
Ballmer comes across like a Dad at a teenage party, although Dad was a teen once & in theory knows all they do and more etc, he seems out of touch & past it. Except instead of dancing embarassingly, he throws chairs & sweats a lot.

Don't know enough about Oracle but
maybe they've got the same or similar reasons as Google had for creating "Big Table". I assume you're familiar with a product Oracle sells that does the same thing at the same speed. I don't think CERN is a valid comparison, unless the particles are sending each other emails.
I don't care for Facebook much either, but it does sound like they've got some very bright guys working there. Larry Whatshisname doesn't need more cash in his greedy maw either.

I run 3 different Win OS's at work & none have a problem with 3.6.10 - in fact I'm using the 4.0 nightlies most of the time - 3.6.10 is the rock-solid version I go back to if the nightly is dodgy. I'm running FF 3.6.10 (now 11) on XP, Server 2003 & Server 2008 with Zero problems, & I run debian at home - FF release is 100% crashless. Are you up to date with everything?
I'd seriously consider a XP re-install - Windows XP needs one every so often.

I didn't have any
crashes with 4.0b7, but the last couple of 4.0b8 nightlies have been crashing all over the shop. I'm using the eighth beta now, which makes your article seem a bit confused. I'm looking forward to the day when its finished, because v4 is a definite advance on v3, although the best thing about Firefox has to be the add-ons - I love them, and so do a lot of other users

Because they are responsible
for what happens to students on their campus, duty of care etc. A few insults or a bit of rudeness is one thing, but a "baying mob" is a bit strong isn't it? I wouldn't have expected this to happen on Brazil - I thought they were pretty tolerant of fleshly display - not the Saudi Arabia of the Americas.

there's an article in the Reg about trademarks, a number of silly people seem to believe that non-commercial & personal use of said mark will somehow be actionable. Or gibber about patents, when the article makes no mention of them.
Mind you, on a US website today I saw someone seriously explain the appearance of "(sic)" after a quoted mis-spelt trademark as "This means Standard Industrial Code" - so there's no limit to the silliness.

The argument that they're foreigners & have to be monitored etc seems to make sense, however, you bet that their database didn't discriminate on that basis. I'm sure everyone was lumped in together, foreign or not, based purely on their ethnic origin, not nationality. The French police certainly are not the British cops - they're more authoritarian,right -wing, & more keen on hitting people. I imagine a lot of them come over all misty-eyed when the word 'vichy' is heard, and they're not thinking of mineral water.

They deserve nearly all this - managers should only be paid in relation to the amount of surplus value they have created. I imagine that this would be a small sum if it were in line with reality - how much profit does your boss generate for the business - not much would be my guess.</rant>

Even if Apple trademark every bleedin' word and character in existence, you'll only not be allowed to start a company or sell a product with the same or similar name. Censorship is always wrong
There is NEVER a need for censorship. Existing laws protect children etc. from abuse, so there is no need for extra laws about images & words because the vulnerable are already protected by law, in theory. If they aren't, then new laws won't help either, will they?
Also, it is self-evident that if there is corrupting material then those who view it for the purposes of censorship are themselves corrupted, poor things. The BBFC should probably be periodically imprisoned and given ECT for their own good, and for the good of society.

they choose a theocracy? I'll bet that most of the more westernised Afganis that used to live there in the 60's & 70's have left for other countries by now - I've met a few.
The Russians got rid of anyone left-of-centre who wasn't a Soviet loyalist (e.g social democrats), which killed of any trend towards secularism. Then the CIA funded all the Islamists it could get its hands on, & taught them insurgency methods into the bargain.
The shit world we now face is of the USA's & its allies making - if they hadn't brought down every self-determined left-wing government established in any 2nd/3rd world country since the war, perhaps we'd be living in a better world now.
