Apple reportedly plans ARM shift for laptops

So

Steve Jobs is the pope then...

I hope the analogy with Catholic priests stops there - I'm sure Apple don't want to limit their OS to over-18s only to avoid any unpleasantness.

Speed psychosis

which you're likely to have after 3 days, is indistinguishable from schizophrenia. If you're psychotic, anything goes, up to & including goat rape & murder. Especially if you're unaware of the possibility - after all its "just speed" - & so is crystal meth.

This isn't a criticism of taking loads of drugs though - there's nowt wrong with that

Software Patents

A very, very bad idea - the sooner the US reforms its patent laws, the better for everyone. I hope the OIN achieves its goal of a multilateral patent ceasefire, otherwise software patents really will stifle innovation & competition, as they have begun to do.

Apparently IBM et al have done some good things, therefore they are above criticism, seems to be the thrust of your argument

very droll

However, OP's point still stands - that IE is effectively part of one OS alone, whereas the others are all cross-platform stand-alone browsers. Even if IE10 is the best browser ever, no-one is about to use a different OS just for that. With the others, you don't have to - so a *Huge* minus for IE, then.

I could be wrong, of course - maybe I'll soon be typing "apt-get install IE10-non-free" ......or not

Exactly. It's a *bonus*. He's not saying they'll get a wage cut or be sacked. Excellent Post

Truth is not a Democracy - a idea which needs bashing into the heads of the world until they get it.

What "deciding for themselves" really means is "deciding which conclusion is least inconvenient for them or fits their politics".

As for statistics - it really does bug me when journos spew out some raw survey data and call it a "statistic" - its well-nigh impossible to analyse the significance of raw data by looking at for half a minute, unless you've memorised a few tables or you've got a maths co-processor interfaced to your brain.

Surprised he didn't blame Emmanuel Goldstein

The Labour party desperately need to purge their "Authoritarian" wing. They had a huge fund of goodwill in '97 & they completely spunked the whole lot by using "1984" as a manual for government. They must drop the New & Old rubbish, & rediscover their lost soul. When the Tories start to appear more liberal on Law & Order something has gone very wrong.

<pedantry>

Why not just say "asks the question" or even better "raises the question".

JF Ozimek - I refer you to http://begthequestion.info/ for a primer on this matter.

Think about it - where did you get the phrase from? You didn't invent the phrase yourself did you? Its a small step from "begs the question" to "I could care less" & using "your" & "there" when you mean "you're" & "their".

Mueller & Naughtons motives are not clear. One thing is for sure, they're not coming out with this rubbish out of concern for GPL compliance. As Mr Kroes says, sounds like MS FUD rather than love of Free software. The odour of the SCO debacle is hanging around - whose proxies are these two?

That's not an argument

A few attempt to understand, but the prevalence of terms like "nerd", "geek" or "anorak" in journalism make it clear that scientists etc. are "the other". It's come to the point where people will wear a "nerd" or "geek" (originally a carnival freak show performer who bit the heads off live chickens) label with pride, a bit like the appropriation of the word "queer" by gay men.

They just don't understand or care that what they're doing is the same as having a discussion where one side says "2+2=4" & the other side says "2+2 = unicorn shit or whatever I say it is" and treating them as equally valid POV.
