UK bankers prep for cyberwar: Will simulate ATTACK on system

paulc

Expect something bad to happen that day...

911 happened while they were doing an exercise involving exactly that scenario, 7/7 happened while they were running an exercise for the same scenario... they were running a bomb exercise in Boston at the same time as the marathon was bombed...

Bzzzzzt!!! Wrong!!!

"label libertarian - a label that, perhaps for most Brits, conjures a right-leaning American stereotype who owns lots of guns, lives in Nebraska and inhabits the Tea Party fringes of the Republican Party. Basically, someone who likes to look others square in the eye and say: "You aren’t the boss of me.""

An American Libertarian is someone who wants to enjoy the benefits of services like national defence, firehouses and police, but doesn't want to pay the necessary taxes to provide them...

Re: We'll see the usual pattern ...

If you've already got an Android phone, then an Android tablet is a no-brainer as any apps you have bought for your phone are also available for free for your tablet... also any content you've bought on google play is also readily available as well without having to pay for it again...

Linux

Re: ...try again @Mage

Both my parents (in their late 70's) are using Linux now... they're sick and tired of windows borking itself and suffering from viruses and Windows 8 was the last straw...

I had great joy in wiping Windows 8 off their new laptops and sticking Cinnamon Mint on them instead and pulling down both XFCE & LXDE for them and defaulting them to LXDE for their desktops...

They were already using Firefox, Thunderbird & LibreOffice on their windows machines, so the transition was pretty painless.

If Microsoft had gotten their act together a few years ago, THEY could be the dominant Linux supplier with an official Microsoft Linux which had their apps officially supported on it via compatibility libraries. torrent it

Google Glassholes to be BANNED from UK roads

paulc

Re: incompatible

"It seems short sighted to jump on a bandwagon of "let's ban it" before doing real research into whether it is more dangerous than the alternatives. The research might just show that they actually improve safety with the right apps?"

How do we know it's not Microsoft lobbying behind the scenes to get them banned until Microsoft can get their own product out that, lo and behold, will have display inhibited at more than 25 mph?

Don't forget, the Segway got legislated out of use on the public roads with all sorts of shenanigans that could only have been the result of lobbying from industries that stood to lose from widespread adoption.

Re: Refusal to Print

the software as usual will be pre-compiled, proprietary rubbish...

No doubt, they'd like the gub'mint to step in and ban open source drivers etc. for 3-D printers and insist on all owners being registered.

paulc

|A canned statement (PDF) saying that if users try to load a file for a 3D gun its “... smart software scans the model and tries to match its characteristics with the characteristics of a firearm. If certain features align, the software will not allow the user to view and print the model.”|

Complete, Utter, Balderdash....

As people have earlier mentioned, all you have to do is split the print jobs up into individual components. Any software that then baulks at a part is obviously completely untrustworthy and could baulk at any tubular shape that you really require printing.

Re: He's right

"Because if any significant number of Senators or Congressmen had read THE PATRIOT act they would have thrown it out."

I think you'll find that that's why they had the interception stuff in place already so that they could target senators and congressmen to blackmail them...

Funny also how the people who were in a position to lead the others into throwing out the PATRIOT act were the recipients of the weaponised Anthrax letters...

Just Google Anthrax Congress and you'll get plenty of links

"Two more anthrax letters, bearing the same Trenton postmark, were dated October 9, three weeks after the first mailing. The letters were addressed to two Democratic Senators, Tom Daschle of South Dakota and Patrick Leahy of Vermont. At the time, Daschle was the Senate Majority leader and Leahy was head of the Senate Judiciary Committee. " From the Wikipedia link

Just imagine how much money was lost because all the runways were closed while this was being dealt with.
