China switches on 'BDS' civilian nav-sat rival to GPS

Andrew Moore

"who reserve the option of denying GPS service, though this has never actually happened."

Are you sure about that- I'm pretty certain that there was quite a few outages during the first gulf war. Fortunately civilian GPS was in its infancy so it would not have received a lot of notice. However the company I worked for sold surveying solutions around GPS and I remember a lot of disgruntled customers.

Feeling poor? WHO took all your money? NOT capitalist bastards?

Re: Just a bunch of wiggly lines?

The civil service are the puppet masters- Anytime a 'new' government is voted in, all you change are the public faces- the puppet masters are still there with no change.

Search engines we have known ... before Google crushed them

Andrew Moore

Re: No love for DogPile?

My thoughts precisely. While not a search engine in itself, it aggregated results from all the other popular engines which was more likely to throw up what you were looking for. I'm trying to remember the name of the tech-search engine it also referenced, which was the best for getting results for programming related enquiries...

North Korea's satellite a dud, say US astroboffins

Here's an idea...

Musos blast US copyright bods: 'ARTISTS MAKE LOUSY SLAVES!'

Andrew Moore

Re: The Artist's themselves are kinda too blame...

True- there is always an exception to the rule (Billy Bragg also comes to mind). The downside is the 'artists with integrity' percentage is so low that it doesn't even feature as a blip on the record labels yearly profit forecasts.

Andrew Moore
Thumb Down

The Artist's themselves are kinda too blame...

...it seems that most artists are only in the industry hoping that a record label will drive a huge dump truck full of money and tip it onto their front lawn.

And then there are the 'artists'; in which case it's the managers that are hoping a record label will drive a huge dump truck of money...
