Have you been round my area then? Edge of town location with a lot of unlit twisty country roads. Beautiful for driving/cycling on during warm summer days but lethal at night when the only way to locate some cyclists is by the reflection of their (no doubt fruity) white headphone cables. More than once have the boy-racers and Mamils come together

1. (DVBViewer) Recording Service on an old netbook with a couple of USB TV tuners, on 24/7 for file serving/torrent and tv duties.

2. OpenELEC running on an AMD Semron 140 for the main TV/projector, with DVBViewer addin.

3. Various PCs with DVBViewer front end

4. Serviio on netbook to take care of local media (could use DVBViewer but serviio understands smart TVs better).

Generally we've found Windows on the front end sucks compared to OpenELEC as it';s far more intrusive and sensitive to change.

Happens on C2C line quite regularly... train is at a station, lights go off then on and the scrolling display shows "Electrostar" for a minute.

I was told by a neighbour some years ago when the new rolling stock was commissioned that the onboard computers were running on Windows 95. Maybe they've upgraded to ME by now...

@Chris 17. There are a few reasons:

1. I got a 5Gb/month mobile broadband SIM from Three on a half price deal, so that's £8.50/month. I mostly use it for tethering, and use about 4Gb as it is shared between my phone/laptop and the kids (when we're in the car). If I cancelled that I wouldn't get such a good deal again.

2. I have had various voice/text SIMs as needs have arisen - Virgin, Ovivo, GiffGaff. So I can port the number everyone knows to whichever company gives the best deal for me. I hardly use any minutes, and what I do use tends to be done via VOIP over 4G (which EE block). Monthly spend on voice/text is around £0.20.

3. As hinted above, some companies block ports or NAT internet access (Virgin, EE). Three appears to be completely open so is great for VOIP as well as VPN and the usual web surfing. The signal has improved massively in the past few years on the routes that I take, so I am reluctant to move. O2 (GiffGaff) sucks for data esp. 4G around my area.

So the only limitation I have is that I can't use Three for both SIMs, for the reasons mentioned in my previous post.

Teclast X98 Air II. Cheekily named, basically a shell the same size as an iPad Air 1 with the same screen but with an Atom 3736F processor. Can run Windows and Android, even has a dual boot option.

So far it seems to do the job more than adequately and once the correct drivers were installed battery drain on connected standby was down to 70mAh (this was an issue until recently). There's a large XDA thread on it and the 3G-equipped version.

My understanding of the article suggests there is no requirement to change the amplifier type to something other than linear, but that the demodulator (hardware + algorithm) is the bit that needs updating. The implication is that there is less need for perfect linearity across the transceiver.

Don't want to say "told you so", and I apologise for labouring the issue. The only people who must be happy about this are Greenpeace (no nukes in space). A power source that isn't dependent on environmental variables (such as not being stuck in shadow) must surely have merit.

I think you mean, you can pick up any imperative language quickly. Try writing SQL in an imperative style (cursors etc.) and you'll end up with a painfully slow process. As for Prolog...

My missus is happy to watch just about anything with sound from the TV speakers but also enjoys the home cinema at full blast.

My in-laws never clean their cars but like it when I do (as payment for borrowing them).

My cat doesn't use quilted toilet paper.

However, with this it is possible for manufacturers to set up presets that would work best for the device in question rather than one mix fits all. Just as dynamic range compression allows people to use "night time" mode without worrying about what it does to how it works, devices could remove individual singers from the mix or maybe someone learning an instrument could replace the bass player in their favourite group. Think of the benefits of listening to a 1D song without any of the singers, or instruments...

Not sure where you're going with this line of thought. Please explain, would you rather the Jews jumped in the sea, vacating all the land to whoever wants to fill the gap? Or perhaps Hamas should be allowed to honour its charter and kill them before they jump?

My point, if I need to make it again is that it seems to be perfectly acceptable for Gazans to ethnically cleanse their land of Jews and others, which has happened yet Israel is attacked for being an apartheid state. I know it's not deemed appropriate to quote Wikipedia round these parts, but this snippet may give you a clue:
