El Reg rocket squad poised to select Ultimate Cuppa teabag

graeme leggett Silver badge

I'd like to know

what it is they put into the paper or plastic cups that sucks the flavour out of tea?

eg on a train, there's a Twinings Breakfast tea bag (a reasonable brand), you leave it in the cup for hours, fish it out with that wooden stick and it tastes of nothing. Sucking on the stick wihout paying £2 would have given more refreshment.

When UK.gov asks 'Who's your daddy', companies HAD BETTER reply

graeme leggett Silver badge

most blind trusts are about the recipient of the money not knowing where exactly the trust money is stashed, so the recipient would have to work backwards from any given company to find if they "owned" it. But the major point against your concern would be that the register is not intended for public viewing. (might not stop the odd newspaper but everything seems to leak somewhere)

New material enables 1,000-meter super-skyscrapers

graeme leggett Silver badge

Re: So how does this enable super-skyscrapers?

A valid point, people think nothing of changing between escalators or lines on the tubes but put them in a vertical situation and they get funny about it. Does having to change lifts spoil the prestige of working on floor 205?

perhaps the engineering limits on lifts throws up the absurdity of commuting an extra third of a mile to get up to your office.

More employment but poorer jobs?

So the UK (as a whole) is paying HP to shift jobs around.

Presumably HP can do one of two things. Hire from the well-qualified tech staff available in Scotland - to replace those it had taken on under good employment terms (TUPE) in Sheffield - on a like for like basis. Or hire less-experienced and cheaper staff in the new locale.

Who's to be the next Dr Who? Sherlock beats Maurice - says you

Cumberbatch would be bonkers to accept if it was offered to him

He's getting high profile work in big films. Can do a serious turn in Sherlock every so often and take up other "proper" drama work on stage or the box.

or he could tie himself down to two or three years of admittedly regular employment which restricts his options and possibly leading to typecasting.

On the other hand it would be another instance of familial relations appearing in the programme for the fans to note. (his mum appearing in Image of the Fendahl a long while ago)

Re: The Asperger's Syndrome sufferer

to give these people the benefit of the doubt, they have probably exhibited the symptoms - eg insular leading to lack of social life, obsessiveness etc - for a long while but its been put down to them being (stereotypically) more brains than social skills, or a bit odd.

It's only once they've been arrested for some alleged offence that they actually get examined by a trick-cyclist who marks them down as actually fitting into a pyschological category.

I can see why you're suspicious, is it a case that Aspergers etc end up doing these things or are the legal team looking for a mitigating defence that fits the image of their client.

Re: Lowercase keyboard?

Parallel vs serial

In typing on a physical keyboard with 2 to 10 fingers, you can just hold the shift key with one finger while you hit keys with the other(s).

On a virtual keyboard using one finger (phone), you toggle the shift - so its more caps lock - with your thumb and then tap the letter key.

With a case changing virtual keyboard - trivial to code if your design ethics don't get in the way? - you have a clear idea of whether caps are on or off.
