Manchester 'wins' £10m to test talking bus stops

graeme leggett Silver badge

Re: Northern Power House my fat arse

I just looked at FirstBus's setup for Norwich.

On one hand there is a city-wide zone and a "2 stop hop" for those short trips. Simple enough

On the other, trying to actually find out what ticket prices are for an adult is very difficult

On a third hand there is an app (for Apple, Android AND Windows Mobile!) so that you can buy electronic tickets.

"several hours arguing about rules that seem to have been written deliberately to be unclear"

They did come up with a rule to solve that pending clarification. the odd/even, flip of the coin one.

But then a lot of the fun in games is the lawyering. I think I even once found a loophole in Monopoly.

A question on small sample size

When faced with only a few pieces, how do palaeontologists rule out the possibility that they've dug up the Robert Wadlow or Warwick Davis of that species?

As opposed to mistaking a juvenile of one species as the adult of new one - where I presume there are some hints in the bone structure.

Re: Offcom

As a counter, I propose that if poor-bloody-consumer can check that their paltry internet performance at home is not due to badly positioned hardware, then it must be the ISP's fault and that incumbent can be rightly criticised. At the moment, they might try the "it looks alright at my end, it must be you" defence.

Equally, should the end-user find that moving their router from underneath the TV and wiggling the aerials ups their iplayer performance then they won't be beguiled by ISP's offer of faster speed at double the price.

Re: it is no longer necessary in today’s investment-rich market

I don't get any from others. I think about half of the VM stuff is generic "householder" at my address. The rest is personally addressed but since VM want me to phone them to stop the crud I count the short walk to the recycle bin as exercise and VMs futile postings as a miniscule subsidy for Royal Mail.

Re: No Party Shall Require?

A signatory to a treaty is the 'party' to it. (though I've seen the phrase "contracting power" used in the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922, the Treaty of Rome uses "High contracting parties")

As the parties to this treaty are states, the meaning is close enough for general discussion.
