Creationists get everywhere, don't they?

Nice one, Mr Ross Nixon - slip in a godbotherer article link. Bit of a giveaway when the author has "To be a Disciple of Christ" in his list of other articles. Makes it somewhat hard to take anything he writes seriously.

Now, where's the icon for a beardy bloke with a big red cross through it...?

By the way, I hope everybody is aware that today is International Slap a Creationist Day? If you know a creationist, you must give them a slap, accompanied by the statement - "Oy, NO!!!". If they are one of those fundamentalist creationists that think the earth is ACTUALLY 6000 years old, they MUST offer you the other cheek to slap as well. Take full advantage.

ISPs baffled by Gordo's 'plans' for web terror talks

Andrew Bolton

@Shakje

Obviously I clicked on it in error and/or for the purposes of research, but I'm now being vilified for it by a "staunch Labour supporter". Hmm, thanks for proving my point :-p

I'm not a particularly big fan of any political party - I tend to vote for whichever local candidate appears vaguely capable of talking with even a tiny amount of honesty (which was Patrick Mercer for me last time round, so I definitely got that one right :D). Although at least the Tories are against ID cards...

I was about 5 minutes away from being blown up on 7/7 (strongly suspect, although never completely worked out, that I shared a carriage with the Edgware Road bomber until Baker St, where I got off), and yet 2 days later I emailed my local MP telling him that ridiculous knee jerk reactions that impinge on personal rights and liberties play into the terrorists' hands, not harm them. And my position has not changed one iota since.

We're sorry, but your attempt to access:

http://www.conservatives.com/

has been denied. This website has been deemed subversive and/or terrorist related by the government.

What to do now:

1. Around 2am tonight, please lie on the ground in your bedroom/place of residence with your hands behind your head. This will mean that being tasered to death while the thought police put the black bag over your head is marginally less likely

2. See 1

If you have attempted to view this page in error, or as part of research, or for some other reason you consider to be valid, your options are

1. Being sodomised by a large armed robber in prison while we hold you for 90 days without charge before tasering you to death.

Nintendo sounds Wii-free Xmas warning

Thumb Down

Buy early. Yeah, in August.

There is loads of discussion on various forums about the Wii shortage. I got mine earlier this year when there was reasonable availability. Any Wiis for sale are quickly snapped up by ebay profiteers, where basic Wiis are going for £300 now. Interestingly, there is apparently decent stock in Europe, with Spain reportedly awash. However, both amazon.fr and amazon.de are now stopping some shipments of Wii's to UK addresses, despite them having stock and this being a violation of European open market law (isn't it?). I'll leave that one up to el Reg to investigate...

I'm sure I'll be the 45th person to make this comment but...

It's not called Check Mii Out. It's called the Mii Contest Channel. Apparently the yank version is Check Mii Out. I have no idea why us Europeans get a different name.

Ah! Probably so they can charge us pounds for dollars price! $0/£0. Terrible rip off merchants :-)

The celeb Mii's already up are quite funny. I like the one of GWB looking particularly gormless. And I can now beat him up in a boxing match, which is strangely satisfying.

Amazing. You managed a 2nd hand PH link too!

The top story on the English Chosen Ilbo link was about PH! Fantastic second-hand linking :)

And I'm disappointed that instead of a fridge, you could have posted the picture of PH in a Hanbok (traditional Korean dress, apparently). That would be just as much of a useful link as a fridge. In fact more so, as PH would be more useful in destroying battefield artillery as a fridge would ("just walk over these metal saucer shaped things, would you Paris?")

Shouldn't that be the slogan of the HFEA?

How just thinking about terrorism became illegal

Andrew Bolton

Any Muslims out there who own Tom Clancy books...

...throw them away now. If the police catch you with them, they've got you on:

1. Instructions to manufacture a 3 stage nuclear fusion bomb in a cave

2. Instructions to crash your 747 into the Capitol building

3. Instructions to create and disseminate Ebola (twice)

and various other minor things including instructions on how to mount a terrorist assault on a large theme park and one on shopping malls (except for this last one, you should have thrown Teeth of the Tiger away already, because it's shite).

You don't need the web at all to get convicted!

Not exactly hidden in the pillar of a bridge over the Thames is it?

Of course if it was, saying they were in Crewe and Maidenhead is the perfect disguise...

"unique identifier" already exists, surely?

Companies House gives your company a number when you register with them. Any reason why they couldn't use this? God (all hail his noodly appendages) forbid that two government organisations actually exchange one item of data though. EDS would probably charge them £1b to create a system. I'd offer to do it with a memory stick and a 10 minute walk every day. And only charge them half as much :-)

Schoolkid chipping trial 'a success'

Andrew Bolton
Black Helicopters

Why stop there?

How namby-pamby is this? Chip in a uniform? Get one kid to bring wear 4 sweaters, and 3 friends get a free day off school, surely?

Injecting an RFID chip under the skin is surely a better option.

Then if a kid is not in school by, say, 9:03 (got to give some grace period, I suppose), send a signal that blows their head off. Oh hang on, I seem to be having a Running Man moment there. Must remember we live in an Orwellan future, not a Schwartzeneggerean future...

@Nick

Err, you can hardly blame the manufacturers for you not installing shielded mains cable in your home. Stick 200MHz ac down an unshielded wire, and you're going to get 200MHz emissions from it...

Rewire your house with CY ring main cable (look in the RS catalogue), and you'll be sorted. Then again, if you're going to rewire your house, I'd suggest putting in cat5 while you're at it :-)

Rapidly going breaked

Dunno about "broke" resisting - it's the one my kids (4&5) have the hardest time with. "Breaked" seems a lot more natural to them. And they use it a lot; "Daddy, you know your playstation?"..."yes"..."I breaked it"..."BROKE IT, please ...... YOU DID WHATTT!!!!??"

Hey car thief! Gonna shut you down

Andrew Bolton

"Stolen car impossible to start"

"Better still, of course would be technology that made a stolen car impossible to start."

Err, yes, it's called an immobiliser. That's why car thieves nick your keys these days. Bit difficult to differentiate stolen car with keys and not-stolen car with keys. Fingerprint recognition in cars? Never going to happen - too inconvenient.

Interesting thing that's happened recently though - with rise of keyless entry (fancy RFID in your keyfob, effectively), if you get carjacked they wouldn't actually get the keys anyway (unless thief noticed, of course). Car may keep going, but if engine stops, it couldn't be restarted again as "key" isn't actually in the car anymore...

I remember seeing something similar in a car TV program years ago - evolution of tracker type system, but operator could actually talk to the thief, and even lock them in the car after stopping it. Which I thought was quite cool :)

Australia to get 1,000 megawatt wind farm

Andrew Bolton

@Robbin Nichol

2.5kW per household is actually a lot. If you used that in your house 24hrs/day, that would be 60kWh/day, or over GBP600/qtr in electricity bill. Peak load is conceivably well above that (UK house may have 80A connection - theoretical peak of 19kW), but average over 24hrs is probably more like 1kW or less for average house.

And while initial cost may be high, fact still remains that once it's built, every Watt that comes out of it has no associated greenhouse gas, which has got to be a good thing, hasn't it?

6000 years old?

If you want a good laugh, read the link in the story above that explains why the earth cannot be millions or even billions of years old (precis - Noah's flood caused everything). It's absolutely hilarious and might distract from the fact that this story is frankly terrifying.

The end of the world IS nigh. Especially seeing as the USA is supposed to be a secular country...
