The Mexican army has seized a dope-slinging catapult capable of projecting 4.4lb (2kg) bundles of marijuana into Arizona. Feeble

35 pounds? 20 Yards? Should have used a trebuchet.

    1. Paul_Murphy

      Yep - seconded

With a decent trebuchet they should be able to get 200 yards or so - depends on the size and load.

There is a modern design of the trebuchet called the trebuchet f2k which is much more compact than the original.

So, no cavalcade of troops departing in angst, yelling "Run away! Run away!" then?

Pity. That would have been fun to see reported on the evening news...

      "any kind of threat"

I was thinking more along the lines of:

"So, what do we do with these 16kgs of marijuana?"

      "14kgs of marijuana you say?"

"i'll get the matches and citation pad."

Were I live a lady got caught with 6 kg of weed. When she went to court she was charged with possession of 0.5kg. Nobody knows what happened to the other 5.5kg. Of course this is the same police dept that said some one accidentally shot them selfs in the head and neck with a revolver and discounted the other 3 rounds in the door. I suppose it was just random anomaly that the guy that got shot was the nephew of the lady that had the 6kg of weed, oops mean 0.5kg.

    "Back in the day..."

Wow, that there's some creative English. Describing the age of chivalry as "back in the day". How old was the guard, and did he fight in the Crusades? "I remember ole King Richie, now there was a man. You don't get his sort these days -- it's all Playstations and management training meetings now.... not the same at all...."

They should have hidden the weed in cows before flinging them via catapult.

Lets not go to Camelot, 'tis a silly place..

    Maybe Cheaper...

    ...to use a spud gun?

But more fuel efficient to use an 18 wheeler.

Of course, it requires an 18-wheeler flatbed and industrial air compressor.

I doubt this is what you meant...

But using my venerable copy of Rogets to get one up on you, I stumbled on this entry under "thrower". Considering the circumstances, it seems oddly appropriate:

      "THROWER, ..., stoner, ..."

Sadly, it's too late in the day for me to come up with a snide remark, but there's bound to be someone out there, no?

    Naming FAIL for Spanish speakers

"US National Guard operatives at the Naco Border Patrol Station"

Reading this made me giggle. If you don't get it, search the meaning of "Naco" in Mexican Spanish and you'll get the joke!

      Also a cactus

Naco, Sonora and Naco, Arizona, IIRC were named after the cactus but your version is much better and does explain the flinging apparatus to some extent. Now I must know, was the truck used to cock it or fire it?

Now we know what that railgun experiment was about the other week.

Imagine being able to fling 10Kg of dope at Mach7.5 over 200 miles. The heat would vapourise the active ingredients prior to landing.

Result - one stoned population. Army walks in to zero resistance :-)

...that is to say, it's a disgraceful business altogether. But, still.

[Bug Jack Barron] is a science fiction novel set approximately in the present day (with black rule in Louisiana I think), but the title is the name of a TV show (the host is the hero) sponsored by "Acapulco Gold", in case anyone's interested.
